Position Summary

The Communications Manager is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of internal communication needs on behalf of the offices of the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer (OSVP/CFO) and Executive Vice President for Administration (OEVPA). Working with members of the Finance and EVPA teams to provide communication support, this position will primarily be focused on executing a monthly electronic newsletter for our internal audiences, developing/writing/editing content for distribution through a variety of communication channels, crafting communication materials for executive leadership and implementing strategic communication plans. The Communications Manager will help conceptualize, create, and implement internal communication strategies, support strategic project implementation collaborate with the Finance and EVPA Comms team members.

This position is remote friendly, with the expectation of on-campus presence on a regular basis. This is typically referred to as Hybrid, with the flexibility of regular remote work mixed with in-office work as mutually agreed upon with the supervisor.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develops content in the form of press releases, one pagers, fact sheets, emails, articles, blogs, etc., and digital newsletters to keep internal and external stakeholders informed.
  • Develop/write/edit content for distribution through a variety of communication channels, crafting communication materials for executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with Finance and EVPA staff to plan and execute strategic communication plans to support various strategic projects and initiatives requiring communication support.
  • Stays attuned to current trends and news, both within and outside the organization, to identify communication necessities and potential publicity avenues.
  • Identifies information sources and conducts interviews to obtain information.
  • Assist in the production of events.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in marketing communications management.
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, especially related to marketing communications.
  • Proficiency in editing in AP style.
  • Experience with content management systems for website design, maintenance, and communication.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Application and demonstration of strong editorial judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with individuals and groups in diverse settings and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and meet multiple deadlines.
