Position Summary

Characteristic Duties/Responsibilities

  • Support daily activities related to research projects and academic needs
  • Create, implement, and maintain field sampling research protocols for site-specific requirements and maintain a standard of quality assurance and quality control with samples and specimens collected
  • Support the lab's objectives related to multiple research projects, their goals, and the outlined protocols for the purpose of meeting specific deliverables
  • Communicate with necessary personnel inside and around the lab
  • Ability to lift and carry field sampling equipment like soil probes, plant samples, soil samples, and equipment in and out of various field settings in potentially different weather condition
  • Ability to travel to local and surrounding farms, research locations, with the occasional long-distance trip within the state
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/certification and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals.

Desired Qualifications

The qualified applicant must demonstrate a strong and effective organizational attitude to working in a multifaceted research laboratory specializing in using digital technologies for sustainable agriculture and food systems.

  • Proficient with Microsoft suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Able to lift and carry up to 49 lbs.
  • Must be able to obtain FAA part 107 to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
  • Effective written and verbal communication between the people within the immediate group and any potential collaboration between outside organizations
  • Enthusiasm about working in a diverse, collaborative, and connected group
