University Medicine Clinical Nurse Manager - Endoscopy in East Providence, Rhode Island

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Nurse Manager reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. The Clinical Nurse Manager has direct supervision of the Endoscopy Center Staff and oversees daily clinical operations. Supports staff, physicians and patients. Analyzes and evaluates services to improve quality of care while enhancing a teamwork approach to active problem solving. Will perform all other duties, as assigned within the scope of practice and expectations of a Nurse Manager in an Endoscopy Center.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist the Program Manager, Ambulatory physician leadership and operational leadership with developing and maintaining goals and aims, standards of practice, policy and procedure manual and written job descriptions for all personnel. Assists in development of budget and monitoring variances.

Operations:

  • Responsible for daily clinical operations and ensures high quality and safe patient care. Maintain safe environment for patients and staff.

  • Responsible for analyzing production and maximizing efficiency of daily throughput of cases at the center.

  • Direct supervision of nursing and ancillary staff; work directly as a staff member at the site in patient care if sick calls, incidence, or needs arise.

  • Assume responsibility and initiative for problem solving and decision-making with staff and appropriate others. Provide direction, coordination, and evaluation of patient care. Oversight of patient schedules for the center along with a staffing plan for best care and efficiency.

  • Assist with writing, planning, implementing, and maintaining the quality assurance program. Responsible for staff adherence to the Quality and Infection Prevention Programs.

  • Participates in Peer Review program and other governance as needed.

  • Maintain records, reports, and logs to meet accrediting/regulatory requirements. In collaboration with Program Manager, CMS/AAAHC survey requirements on an ongoing basis and revise as needed to maintain state accreditation.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines; ongoing evaluation of patient level of skilled care under the parameters of state guidelines.

  • Responsible for maintenance and assurance that all site equipment is in working order and routinely inspected; involved with the purchase and maintenance of Endoscopy equipment and supplies; responsible for overseeing supply orders and maintaining proper inventory, tracking, and trending of data.

  • Ensure Credentialing for physicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are complete, accurate, and time sensitive.

  • In collaboration with physician and operational leadership, develop, revise, and implement endoscopy policies and procedures. Ensures adherence to all policies and procedures by all staff.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a drug usage and surveillance program. Includes purchasing and logging of the following medications: narcotics, non-narcotic, and emergency medications.

  • Utilize advanced computer/informatics skills (e.g., electronic health records, spreadsheets, word processing).

  • Participate in continuing education.

Human Resources:

  • Responsible for ongoing evaluation and performance reviews of staff.

  • Provide staff development and in-service education in clinical and safety matters.

  • Ensures the development and delivery of nursing education to staff.

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding staff members.

  • Coordinate orientation schedules for new staff.

  • Assures all staff are BLS/ACLS certified providing classes and monitoring updates.

Communication:

  • Maintains open and positive communication with nursing personnel and other health professionals.

  • Maintains professionalism with established relationships.

  • Produces and presents written and oral communications that are clear, well organized, and logical.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and personnel information.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • BSN from accredited school of nursing

  • Current RI RN License

  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • Five (5) years previous GI experience

  • Two (2) years previous managerial experience
