Minimum Qualifications

Scope of Job

Teaching

· Facilitate classroom activities, discussions, and exercises to reinforce language learning objectives.

· Utilize technology and multimedia resources to enhance the learning experience.

· Conduct regular assessments and progress monitoring to track student development.

· Collaborate with staff to integrate language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) effectively into lesson plans.

· Provide individualized assistance to students to address specific language acquisition challenges.

Curriculum Development

· Research and incorporate authentic materials and cultural content to promote language proficiency and cultural competence.

· Contribute innovative ideas and materials for curriculum enhancement, lesson planning, and adaptation to diverse student needs.

· Participate in curriculum review meetings and provide feedback on existing materials and course offerings.

· Assist in the development of supplementary materials, such as handouts, worksheets, and online resources.

· Collaborate with ELP staff to align curriculum with program objectives and standards.

Classroom Administrative Support

· Assist in the organization and coordination of program-related events, such as workshops, seminars, and guest speaker sessions.

· Assist in the administration of ESL program activities, including scheduling, grading, and record-keeping.

· Assist in the recruitment and training of peer tutors and conversation partners.

· Coordinate with assigned faculty and staff to ensure smooth operation of program instruction activities and events.

· Provide support for student recruitment, orientation, and advising as needed.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

The position is available to full-time graduate students enrolled in the MA English as a Second Language program with 18 hours of graduate coursework prior to Fall 2024.

Must be enrolled to the Master of Arts (MA) in English as a Second Language program.

Preferred Qualifications

· Availability to work in Edinburg and Brownsville locations.

· Ability to use standard office equipment, personal computer, Office 365 applications, including but not limited to MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Teams, etc.

· Teaching experience.
