Armstrong Flight Research Center Administrative Specialist (Range Control Specialist) (Direct Hire) in Edwards AFB, California

Summary The Range Control Specialist (RCS) works within the Dryden Aeronautical Test Range (DATR), planning, scheduling and supporting various research missions, to include acting as an operational liaison between the range users and supporting range operations personnel. You must have the ability to assume several support roles and manage numerous tasks to meet mission requirements. This may include working at remote range sites, other test ranges and or facilities. Responsibilities Analyzes organizational priorities and provides a wide range of liaison services to support administrative aspects for a significant agency component, such as a regional office, center, or major field installation. Acts as the range user's operational representative and performs program liaison duties to support long and short-range administrative planning activities for assigned projects during mission support. Participates actively in mission real-time support, providing ideas and guidance to the Test Conductors (TC) in the utilization of range resources, managing related resources, tracking and resolving conflict issues. Attends Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), DATR Configuration Control Board (CCB), and other informative meetings to remain current on systems capabilities, configurations, and new systems under development. Participates in range system development and testing and the transition of newly developed systems into the operational environment. Coordinates, monitors and directs the activities of all support elements during a real-time mission. The Real-Time RCS will interface with mission Test Conductor, Test Information Engineers (TIE), and others. Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level: Scheduling range assets for flight test planning and assisting in coordinating project requirements with senior management; Providing assistance to staff to monitor range assets during flight testing that may include: data acquisition, processing and display systems, mission control centers, video control centers, long range optic systems, telemetry and radar systems, Radio- Frequency (RF), flight termination systems and ground audio communications systems; Performing tasks to assist Test Conductors, Project Managers, or engineers in the utilization of range and related resources or functions, and assisting with tracking issues.
