What You'll Be Doing

Job Summary: To provide construction over-site during the execution of projects at the site to meet business plans and improve income by implementing and managing capital projects.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Actively participate in all safety programs to continually improve the safety culture of the plant and Company.

  • Support and help drive both plant and Corporate EHS initiatives.

  • Promote an environment that achieves incident free performance through diligent proactive safety efforts and job safety planning.

  • Execute budgeted capital projects to ensure the safe maintenance and operation of plant and equipment in compliance with internal and legislative requirements (site and corporate policies/procedures).

  • Provide a critical review of new project installations to assure adherence to plant EH&S guidelines and issue thorough Management of Change documentation.

  • Provide construction management for contractors. Author and issue safe work permits (general work/hot work/line breaks/confined space) to contractors so they can execute their approved scope of work.

  • When required assist Project Managers to plan capital projects from conceptual stages, cost estimating, AFE generation, through design, construction, and startup/close out stages.

  • Ensure that appropriate work processes are followed in defining and implementing projects, so they are delivered safely, cost effectively, on time, and achieve all the stated business and project objectives.

  • Inform Project Manager of field extras to ensure that cost sheets are updated on a regular basis to ensure the TIC is in line with budget.

  • Inform Project Manager of schedule changes so that the schedule is updated on a regular basis to ensure the project is completed on time.

  • Monitor progress of the Business Partners’ work to ensure that they follow work processes, oversee the quality of the work, control the costs, and provide direction to deliver the project objectives.

  • Provide field support to remove barriers encountered during construction.

  • Complete timely required construction status reporting.

  • Ensure the quality of construction meets the company’s standards and specifications for equipment installation.

  • Ensure that equipment installation will allow for safe and efficient plant operations.

  • Ensure that equipment installation can safely be worked on by maintenance personnel.

  • Perform project design document reviews, including reviewing layout and construction drawings for best practice of operability, constructability, and maintainability. Review construction scopes of work.

  • Perform safety reviews of Contractor work sites, including monitoring the adherence to safety procedures.

Ideal Background

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field from an accredited university is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial construction management or project-related experience. Chemical plant or refinery experience is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to facilitate troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts and team meetings.

  • Proficient in creating, optimizing, maintaining, and executing construction schedules.

  • Ability to understand P&ID’s and construction drawings.

  • OSHA 10-hour safety training (Plus)

  • Management of construction activities:

  • Crane lifts, lifting plans, vessel and tank removal and installation.

  • Demolition activities for piping, tanks, reactors, pumps, buildings, pads, and foundations.

  • Civil construction, concrete, proper rebar installation, SPCC installations.

  • Piping fabrication, welding, and field routing of piping.

  • Installations for pressure, temperature, level, flow, and other instrument types and controls equipment.

  • Installations for electrically powered and electrical feed equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates.

  • Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as a fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat.
