The Maintenance Mechanic Lead is responsible for upkeep of building maintenance and maintenance of warehouse-related equipment (i.e. pallet jacks, high lifts, forklifts, batteries, dock doors, dock plates, restraints Refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, Life safety systems, etc.). This keeps day and night warehouse operations functional to ensure efficient shipping and receiving of products.

Main Ingredients of the Job!

  • Perform necessary repairs and maintenance to warehouse-related equipment (i.e. pallet jacks, high-lifts, forklifts, etc.) to ensure that adequate machinery is available for day and night warehouse operations.

  • Review any equipment reports submitted by warehouse associates, record actions/repairs taken, and maintains a repair log per USF policy.

  • Perform PMs (Preventative Maintenance) on equipment, and maintain PM log with proper documentation, per USF policy.

  • Comply with all USF and government guidelines regarding safety when working on equipment (i.e., Lock Out/Tag Out, placarding and required documentation, safe work environment, etc.)

  • Maintain and secure the battery-charging area, batteries, and other equipment contained therein.

  • Responsible for company tools and maintenance equipment used in the performance of job duties, including inventory maintenance, safe operation, proper storage, and security of tool area.

  • If authorized, may purchase tools and other equipment needs from local vendors to perform required duties.

  • Will perform minor building maintenance. (Dock doors, Dock Plates, Restraints, Freezer Doors, Lighting)

  • Disassemble machines and select replacement parts.

  • Refurbish equipment - tear down, inspect, repair, clean, and paint.

  • Communicate in person with vendors, staff, managers, and others, providing information on, repair times, etc.

  • Perform research to inquiries as necessary.

  • Practice good housekeeping, i.e., keeping work areas clean and hazard-free.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:

  • High School education or equivalent preferred

  • Additional mechanic training or a trade school degree is preferred.

Related Experience:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of previous mechanic experience is REQUIRED .

  • A minimum of 2 years of expertise in Forklift/Pallet Jack repairs, diagnostics, and parts inventory experience is REQUIRED .

  • 5 years HVAC or Refrigeration experience Preferred.

  • Fire systems Preferred.

  • OSHA and PSM Experience Preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of equipment repair and operation.

  • Ability to repair and overhaul warehouse equipment.

  • Ability to read and write legibly.

  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide);

  • Computer knowledge required (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Ability to read and understand vendor technical and repair manuals, wiring schematics, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.

  • Working knowledge of mechanics, electricity, carpentry, plumbing, and HVAC.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary.

  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to work with a diverse group of individuals at varying levels both within and outside the organization.

  • Must be able to provide your own tools.

  • Experience with CMMS (Maximo) preferred.

  • Experience dealing with service supply vendors on scheduling and completing repairs.

  • 5 years HVAC or Ammonia Refrigeration experience Preferred.

  • Fire systems Preferred.

  • OSHA and PSM Experience Preferred
