The Sr. Electrical Engineer will be the electrical engineering subject matter expert for RYAM's Fernandina Beach mill. You will manage, plan, and perform the design, development, and repair of plant wide electrical and instrument systems for the provision of power to the plant. You will provide expert level planning, design, development, implementation, documentation, support and improvement of mill electrical and instrument systems.

How you’ll shape the future of the Electrical Engineering Department:

  • Review and provide feedback for electrical design, electrical construction drawings and installation procedures. Work with project teams to ensure consistency of installations across the facility.

  • Identify and provide project team with appropriate industry standards that apply. Provide leadership to create new equipment specifications for applications

  • Establish boundaries and scope for all project power system studies. Review and approve electrical study deliverables.

  • Provide subject matter expertise and consultation during construction to address design related issues, advise on QA/QC issues, and to perform a prestart-up inspection.

  • Actively participate in planning and execution of field projects that involve a high level of complexity or risk. Work with project engineers to develop detailed risk mitigation procedures for work on systems carrying process loads. Review electrical test results.

  • Prepare in-depth feasibility studies, project appropriation requests, economic analysis and cost estimates for additions and modifications. Works with consultant engineering firms to develop larger and more complex projects.

  • Provide subject matter expertise for the electrical and instrument maintenance functions of the mill that would include reliability improvement through development of condition monitoring systems, troubleshooting, repair design and planning, as well as the direct supervision of both hourly mechanics and contractor employees.

  • Prepare or supervise preparation of drawings for assigned capital and other projects. Select equipment and material for new mill facilities and modifications. Prepare and analyzes equipment and contract specifications and bid packages. Make recommendations. Assist other Project Engineers in own field of experience and engineering.

  • Supervise contractors' fieldwork. Advise maintenance supervision on field work of assigned projects. Coordinate with purchasing, traffic and receiving for delivery of new equipment and materials. Successful completion of all phases of assigned projects within authorized costs.

  • Investigate various types of equipment problems involving selection of material, improvement of equipment and repair versus replacement analyses. Inspects mill equipment during shutdowns. Inspect equipment deterioration and failures and recommends actions required reducing or eliminating failures and assuring safe condition of potentially hazardous equipment.

  • Insure that all phases of project work are properly documented, i.e., project costs, equipment manuals and drawings, material certifications, etc. Procure spare parts and coordinate training for mechanics, electricians and operators as needed for new equipment and systems.

  • Prepare cost estimates, equipment evaluations, project appropriation requests (PAR's), and designs for multidisciplinary projects. Responsible for completion and cost control of all projects assigned.

You’ll be someone who can bring:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with 8 + years electrical experience in an industry facility.

  • Experience in pulp or paper operations is a plus.

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written to constructively interact with mill teams, project teams, and management.

  • Results-oriented and energized by tough challenges; demonstrates good problem-solving skills, troubleshooting skills, innovation, and creativity.

  • Able to lead productive meetings, including meetings with outside agencies, and present in a public forum.

  • Prioritize work and is flexible.

  • Work independently with minimum supervision.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, professional journals, and periodicals.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all job-related software; Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, EasyPower, and SAP software knowledge desired.

  • Present information and respond to questions from individuals, groups or managers, and customers; communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Use advanced mathematics, applies engineering principles and theory.

  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
