Michigan State University(MSU) Research Assistant I in Flint, Michigan

Position Summary

The Flint Registry, under the direction of Drs. Mona Hanna-Attisha and Nicole Jones, seeks to hire a Research Assistant I with the Flint Registry. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-designated public health authority, the Flint Registry's (  goal is to connect people who were impacted by the Flint Water Crisis to resources and programs that serve to minimize the effects of lead on their health while promoting wellness and recovery. This position will be based in Flint, Michigan.  

The Research Assistant I will be integrally involved in the evaluation and dissemination of research related to the Flint Registry. 

Duties will include cleaning data and conducting statistical analyses, preparing data for presentation and dissemination, conducting literature reviews, and supporting annual evaluation reporting. This individual will also contribute to manuscript preparation and other work in support of the timely dissemination of research findings for the Flint Registry. The applying individual must have experience in academic writing, data management, statistical analysis, and working with research collaborators.

Responsibilities may include: • Compile and summarize results and participates in preparing reports, manuscripts and articles for publication. • This position involves a wide range of tasks related to management and analysis of quantitative data. A significant effort in this position will be devoted to secondary analysis of survey data. • Support of sub-studies that support Flint Registry and PPHI missions. • Communication of research findings to public and professional audiences through oral presentations and technical reports.

This is a full-time off-dated position funded through July 31, 2025 with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal. This position is eligible for the extensive benefits package that Michigan State University offers its support staff.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.

 

 

 

Desired Qualifications

-Knowledge of statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, R) and data visualization techniques 

-Experience with scientific writing, working in academia/higher education and a willingness to learn.  

-Demonstrated ability to synthesize and summarize complex information and communicate clearly and concisely.  

-Attention to detail with strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.  

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

-Demonstrated ability to work independently on data analyses and preparing results 

-Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines 

-Ability to deliver publishable tables and figures 

-A desire to learn new techniques and approaches and to pursue professional development. 

-Familiar with the Flint Community/Registry project.
