Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ) at CSU is seeking applicants to work with the ARNG G-9) as a data entry specialist admin pro to assist with data management on the G-9 network. The job location will be at 111 South George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA, 22204. Work location is dependent on the needs of the partner/project/role. In some instances, positions may require staff to be fully in-person. In other instances, hybrid or remote arrangements may be possible.

The incumbent will assist with a range of data entry and management tasks in support of long-term hazardous material inventory and monitoring efforts at several ARNG training installations. The position will perform assignments with guidance from program staff who are experienced data science professionals. The incumbent will also collaborate closely with clean-up specialists and other network staff to execute the work.

Hiring of this position will begin immediately and requires a federal background investigation and favorable adjudication prior to starting. Anticipated start date is August/September 2024. The duration of the position is expected to last a minimum of one year. Actual length of service will depend on specific technical needs of the office, funding, and applicant performance. Official administration of the position will be from CEMML , but the position will report to the G-9 for direct oversight. Work may include very limited travel.

Required Job Qualifications

  • BS or BA degree in computer science, information technology, geographic information systems, geography, environmental science, or related field or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing geospatial data and GIS (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online).

  • Proficient in typing (e.g., speed and accuracy)

  • Knowledge and experience using MS Office software, especially Excel, Access (or other relational databases) and Word

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written

  • Basic research and collection of data skills

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • MS or MA degree in computer science, information technology, geographic information systems, geography, environmental science, or related fields

  • 2 or more years of related work experience is desirable

  • Experience working in natural resources or with ecological data.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate and document workflow status and process with program staff.

  • Self-motivated with acute attention to detail.

  • Ability to prepare and present data in a way that is understandable to the general public

  • Experience working in a highly structured organization.
