TEKsystems Systems Engineer in Fort Collins, Colorado

Description:

Systems Engineer I is responsible for performing the deployment, configuration, support, maintenance, and retirement of infrastructure systems throughout the lifecycle. Responsible for advanced aspects of infrastructure troubleshooting and support, system maintenance, vulnerability management tasks, monitoring systems, reviewing logs, and maintaining system diagrams and documentation.

Duties

• Provides “tier two” infrastructure support by managing the incident queue and performing initial troubleshooting; assists less experienced staff with troubleshooting complex issues to help them develop more effective troubleshooting techniques

• Collaborates with the service desk to ensure systems are properly configured in the monitoring system; proactively monitors the environment; responds to alerts and detects/diagnoses issues

• Collaborates with the security team to ensure system logs are being recorded in the security information and event management system and that proper alerting is configured

• Performs the maintenance and patching process by researching, documenting, and communicating the change impacts; manages change tickets; and implements patches and fixes

• Collaborates with the asset management team to ensure infrastructure asset information is captured and maintained in the configuration management database from deployment through disposal

• Strictly adheres to and provides input to the change management processes and procedures

• Maintains system diagrams and documentation

• Continually develops new skill sets through formal and informal training and works with other experienced systems engineers

• Demonstrates safe work practices and complies with established safety procedures

• Responsible for advanced aspects of infrastructure troubleshooting and support, system maintenance, vulnerability management tasks, monitors systems, reviews logs, and maintains system diagrams and documentation

Server systems engineering and management assignment

• Performs the installation and configuration of hardware in the data center and other locations across the organization following established processes and procedures

• Creates server images and configuration standards, using them to deploy and configure Windows and Red Hat Linux servers and perform on-going management of those servers

• Performs Active Directory services administration tasks for user and group accounts; endpoint and network services; group policy object management; DNS and DHCP administration

• Performs Active Directory services tasks including topology distribution and replication; performs configuration, schema management; security administration, maintenance, and reporting

• Assists with deployment and management of the storage area network (SAN) and perform on-going management of the system including configuration of storage and networking components, manages LUNs, monitors, interprets logs and troubleshoots issues

• Assists with deployment of the enterprise backup system and perform on-going management of the system including backup client software installation, performs server recoveries, configures, and troubleshoots client and server backup issues

• Installs, configures, tests, and manages switches, routers, wireless access points and other network equipment throughout the organization following established processes and procedures

• Responsible for ensuring configurations are being backed up on a regular basis and that restore procedures are current and functional

• Manages routers and firewalls

• Assists with the definition and implementation of complex firewall rules and ACLs

• Deploys and configures wireless networking management and monitoring technologies

• Implements and configures device hardening technologies and techniques

• Assists the more experienced system engineers with the network architecture, design, and implementation planning
