U.S. Army Medical Command Emergency Medical Technician (Motor Vehicle Operator) in Fort Liberty, North Carolina

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: In addition to the first responder duties and responsibilities, follows protocols in providing basic life support. Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 4 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. Responsibilities Provides appropriate on the scene life support and drives ambulance to and from the scene. Responds on-site to accidents and other emergencies involving injury operating an emergency vehicle (ambulance). Conducts preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects the most appropriate protocol from a variety of prescribed protocols. Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of the condition and searches for medical alert symbols. Assists in lifting and carrying the patients who routinely weigh in excess of 100lbs in addition to the stretcher which also weighs in excess of 100lbs from the incident scene. Determines if and how the patient can be moved (ground vs. air) and to which medical facility the patient should be transported. Performs initial and on-going focused patient assessment and physical examination. Manages respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED). Controls external bleeding with direct pressure and treats shock with pneumatic anti-shock garments. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Licensure/Certification: Initial hires may be made with a valid state Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification; however, incumbent must obtain and maintain a National Registry EMT certification within 52 weeks of the date-of-hire. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
