Job Title: Grounds Equipment Mechanic (36451)

Join Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW):

We are currently seeking a full-time, year-around, on-site Grounds Equipment Mechanic in our Grounds department. This position performs general service and repair for grounds equipment, snow removal equipment, university fleet, etc. The pay for this position is $18.10/hr.

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform general service and repair for grounds equipment, snow removal equipment, university fleet, etc.

Perform repairs on equipment using hoists, jacks, jack stands, grinders, drills, welding equipment and other shop tools.

Repair/replace component(s) and reassemble systems to tolerance specified.

Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as needed.

Respond quickly to mechanical breakdowns in the field.

Perform daily maintenance.

Report completion of service and repair work.

Report replacement of inventory.

Perform work outdoors and indoors.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent. Education from Ivy Tech or other trade school in auto mechanics will be considered.
  • 2 or more years in small engine/automotive repair and maintenance or of related experience.
  • Ability to repair grounds and related equipment and vehicles (fleet vehicles, mowers, tractors, snowblowers, etc.)
  • Must have working knowledge and experiences with small engine repair and diagnostics.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot/repair electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems of Greens Industry equipment. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor and campus customers.
  • Must have valid drivers license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Policy.
  • Able to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
  • Required to work overtime for special events as directed by supervisor.
  • Subject to 24-hour call back for emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Vocational/technical training in small engine repair or welding.
