Amazon IT Manager (Data Center Operations Manager) in Frankfurt, Germany

We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for proven technology managers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding, and the drive to take AWS Data Center Operations to the next level.

You have experience creating and devising strategies, mentoring people at all levels, sponsoring projects, and proposing technical solutions. You will manage teams in hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair and participate in an on-call rotation. You are willing to work autonomously and manage your teams effectively. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful. In addition to strong knowledge in data centers, hardware and network repair, you will create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.

Key job responsibilities

• SAFETY

Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world-class safety culture.

Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.

• DATA CENTER OPERATIONS (DCO)

DCO managers are front-line leaders who ensure that all aspects of our hardware and network systems are operational within our Data Center sites. You will guide a team of technical professionals to support this work, as well as frequent engagement in the following activities:

o Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to Data center technicians and operators

o Routinely review ticket queues for large events and act accordingly

o Educate, train, and guide Data Center Operations Technicians in best practices relating to resolving service owner issues

o Manage and deliver mid-size projects

o Recommend, write, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and the required Service Level Agreement (SLA)

o Manage a diverse team of Data Center Technicians with varying skills

o Maintain the on-call schedule, and coordinate absence and vacations ensuring 24/7 operations

o Participate in on-call rotation for emergency calls

o Recruit and train Data Center Technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels

o Write and deliver performance reviews for staff

Basic Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification or degree in IT field or job-related experience

  • Very good command of English

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word), ticketing systems and web-based operational tools

  • Direct people management experience and proven track record of success in delivering projects despite competing priorities and distractions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Information Technology (IT) infrastructure domains such as compute server platforms, storage server platforms, server components, network devices, cabling best practices and IT service delivery principles and best practices

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field, applicable certifications or equivalent professional experience

  • Understanding of critical electrical, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), control and Change Management Systems (CMS); Prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team or product

  • Very good command of English and German
