Honeywell Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer - Sensors in Freeport, Illinois
As an Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer here at Honeywell Sensor and Switch solutions for Aerospace and Defense, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing innovative mechanical solutions for our business unit. You will be responsible for creating and implementing advanced mechanical designs, utilizing your expertise in mechanical engineering principles and CAD software. Your designs will contribute to the development of cutting-edge sensor and switch solutions that enhance the performance and safety of aerospace and defense systems.
You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Freeport, IL location on a hybrid work schedule (except for the first 90 days).
In this role, you will design and develop new ideas and solutions for new product development as well as current products modification and improvements based on in-service issues and market strategy. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of mechanical parts, subassemblies and product improvements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of mechanical designs into our sensor and switch solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design mechanical systems and components, mature the product from concept through development, and into qualification.
Maintain technical document packages to support product validation.
Develop statistical stack-ups and transfer functions to ensure performance requirements are met.
Define and identify source-controlled and vendor-item components and work with suppliers to optimize performance and cost.
Build and test prototypes and development units, analyze results and create reports.
Align with sales and offering management, building industry knowledge, and proposing innovative solutions to customer challenges.
Perform tear-down analysis and identify root cause and corrective actions for product failures.
Become the technical expert and provide support to factory, sales, customers, and suppliers.
Determine technical feasibility of new business opportunities, write specifications, and provide project and product cost estimation.
Launch and independently manage smaller projects with limited support.

YOU MUST HAVE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
4+ years of experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical design
Proficiency in CAD software
WE VALUE
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry
New product development experience
Electro-Mechanical design experience
Computer-Aided Design Skills preferably ProE / CREO
Ability to work directly with customers.
