International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), Gibson City, IL has an exciting opportunity for a Production Unit Manager to join our team.

The Unit Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction for all aspects of a manufacturing unit(s) and interfaces with site leadership to effectively allocate site resources. This role is accountable for meeting business metrics including fixed & variable cost, quality, production volume, and continuous improvement targets. Sets expectations and establishes a strong commitment to all core values, food safety, and DPS culture for the unit. The incumbent must be able to interact effectively with business / corporate leadership and supply chain for coordination of schedules and understanding of customer need.

Job Requirements

  • Responsible for setting the strategic direction for the day to day operations of an assigned production unit.

  • Use six sigma or other defect elimination tools and lean tools to interpret data and provides analysis for trends to support hypothesis and/or find solutions.

  • Set expectations and hold employees accountable for Core Value compliance (SHE, PSM, Ethics & Respect for People) and model the appropriate behavior.

  • Ensure safe and environmentally sound operations.

  • Responsible for setting direction and implementing key initiatives in support of key business objectives.

  • Proactively collaborate with other site leaders on key topics related to the overall success of the plant.

  • Lead continuous learning and development efforts to ensure the area is energized and performing at peak levels.

  • Responsible for talent acquisition and capability building.

  • Manage the unit cost of operation (P.O. development, tracking, measuring, and reporting).

  • Establish operational priorities, focus, and operational discipline.

  • Responsible for the performance management process of direct and indirect subordinate employees (goal setting, performance measurement, recognition, feedback, coaching & counseling).

  • Establish effective communications systems within the unit focused on sharing of information and engaging employees in the success of the facility.

  • Understand, support and communicate plant and company strategic initiatives.

  • Other duties that may be required due to dynamic changes in business focus.

  • Perform job duties in a manner that follow food safety and quality guidelines including but not limited to HACCP, GMPs, QA Policies, Sanitation, and Pest Control.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Preferred degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical) or related technical field.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and has demonstrated performance as a member of successful teams.

  • Previous responsibility in managing budgets and understanding fixed/variable cost

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment. This would include a deep understanding of process theory and equipment utilization.

  • Experience with safety processes and systems including safety improvement processes, audits and developing safe behaviors.

  • Must be able to collect and analyze data, identify solutions, assess risk factors, and make sound business decisions.

  • Effectively utilizes Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and other defect elimination techniques

  • Actively supports the elements of Process Safety Management (PSM)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Must effectively communicate both inside and outside the plant organization.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, etc.) and/or be able to learn other computer systems/databases.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification and Lean Manufacturing Methodology Knowledge.
