MILLS COUNTY Part-time Recorder Clerk in Glenwood, Iowa

The Mills County Recorders Office is seeking a part-time clerk. Computer/office skills are required. Salary will depend on experience, ranging from $18-$20 per hour. Must be minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent. Hours per week required would be 25-29

Part-time Recorder Clerk Reports to: County Recorder

Minimum Training and Experience Required:

Minimum age of 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation and the ability to write legibly. Applicants must have experience in Microsoft Word and general computer knowledge, typing skills, be detailed oriented, have good customer service and communication skills both verbal and written.

Duties and Responsibilities:

(These are not exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required.) Under the general supervision of the county recorder, the clerk will utilize various software programs to process the recording of documents; review legal documents received by mail, in person or electronically for accuracy and compliance to statutory provisions; calculate fees and scan documents. It will be required at times to assist the recorder in balancing daily, prepare daily bank deposit, verify cash receipts and charges match totals in computer systems. The clerk will assist the general public in issuing vital records; processing marriage applications; selling hunting and fishing licenses; registering and renewing off-road vehicles and boats. Clerk must organize a large amount of information for reference in carrying out these tasks and be able to communicate over the phone to vendors, customers, etc.; will work with the public in possibly difficult situations. Discretion, confidentiality, honesty and ethical behavior are expected. Must accurately count back cash to customers, use a cash register, scanning equipment, and DNR license computer. Will be required at times to lift large books. Interruptions are common throughout the day and must be ready to assist with other job-related activities.

Expectations:

Must be punctual and reliable and willing to help co-workers and work as a team. Cell phone use should be kept to a minimum. Social media and other internet use that does not pertain to work is not allowed on county computers. Be respectful and helpful to co-workers and to the public.
