About the Unit
The Pharmacy Department provides pharmacy services for Inpatients, ED, Surgery, and the Infusion Center.
Scope of Work
The Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, processes, prepares, and delivers medications and supplies, working with multiple medication automation systems. The Pharmacy Technician works in complex pharmacy areas, including Sterile Product Compounding, Controlled Substance Handling, and Inventory Management.
Essential Functions
Prepares supplies / medication, including complex sterile formulations under the direction of a Pharmacist. May prepare hazardous or biologic products when properly trained and competencies are passed.
Prepares and packages bulk medications into unit of use packaging.
Handles controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under direct supervision of a pharmacist per federal and state law.
Delivers pharmacy prepared medications, controlled substances and supplies to various nursing stations/patient care areas.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Maintains all requirements for CPhT certifications. Completes all Spectrum Health assigned competencies by assigned due dates.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Associate's Degree
Hospital experience Preferred
LIC-Pharmacist Intern - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required Or
LIC-Pharmacy Technician Temp - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required And
LIC-Pharmacy Technician - STATE_MI State of Michigan 90 Days required
CRT-Pharmacy Technician, Certified (CPHT) - PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required Or
CRT-Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) - NHA National Healthcareer Association Excludes - LIC- Pharmacist Intern 90 Days required
Ideal candidate will possess Full License and National Certification as well as 1-2 years of Pharmacy experience
Inpatient experience or IV experience would be a great plus
