Job Description Summary As a team member of the Building Inspection division of Weld County Planning Services, this position performs technical inspection work in administration of the Weld County Building Code and other applicable regulations. This position is the direct supervisor of Permit Technicians, Plans Examiners,
Building Inspectors and support staff.
Job Description Building Official Tasks - 80%
Review submitted drawings, plans, and specifications and take appropriate action. Discuss technical problems, ordinances, and codes with contractors, architects, and engineers or allied professionals. Provide interpretations of codes independently or after consultation with the Director of Planning Services. Conduct construction inspections in administration of Weld County Code. Provide technical assistance on construction inspections. Discuss field inspection problems and procedures. Answer technical questions regarding code enforcement. Assist in inspection training program. Study codes and technical manuals, use knowledge to recommend changes in local codes or ordinances and office procedures to the Director of Planning Services. Prepare special and periodic reports. Prepare reports of construction work completed and inspections conducted. Maintain records and files. Report on fuel consumption, daily mileage, inspector stops and inspections. Monitor permits and valuation. Maintain Building Inspection division files. Assist Planning personnel in conducting field inspections related to the administration and enforcement of Weld County Code. Make independent judgments concerning acceptance of alternative building products and construction methods as well as management and supervision concerns. Provide supervision and leadership for Building Inspection division staff. Responsible for the selection, placement, training, development, appraisal, promotion, and discipline of division employees. Assist in the growth and advancement of subordinates through training and employee developmen Miscellaneous/Other duties as required - 20%
Department of Planning Services liaison to the Weld County Building Trades Advisory Board. Perform all duties as defined in the International Building Code. Ability to drive throughout Weld County to perform Building Inspection and supervisory job duties. Regular and predictable attendance during scheduled work hours. Work performed onsite at Department of Planning Services and throughout Weld County. May include work outside of regular business hours.

Required Qualifications Required Education
Bachelor's Degree Construction Management or related field. Experience Qualifications
10+ years Practical experience in construction and/or inspection. Experience supervising employees performing a variety of job duties. Preferred Education
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Preferred Experience
Prior experience working for both public and private sector employers. Skills and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret, plans, specifications and blueprints and compare them with construction in progress. Ability to detect hazards or violations and recommend corrective measures. Thorough knowledge of current building construction methods, materials, principles, practices, tools, and equipment. Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and ordinances. Ability to administer regulations with professionalism and impartiality. Strong critical thinking skills, ability to make independent judgments and work with minimal supervision. Licenses and Certifications
DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid state-issued driver's license. Required ICC Building Official Certification; if not certified within 180 Days Required ICC B1 and B2 Certifications, plus a minimum of any two ICC Certifications in the following: electrical, mechanical, or plumbing. Required This position is exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore ineligible for overtime pay.
