Caterpillar Inc. seeks Autonomy Engineer at its facility located at 6000 W Caterpillar Trail, Green Valley, AZ 85614. Develop, integrate, or test complex autonomy systems to meet prioritized requirements for autonomous machine programs focusing on machine safety and productivity, and provide a differentiated product value to customers. Meet NPI milestones for each program by delivering quality systems on time that meet agreed upon features. Develop, integrate and/or troubleshoot autonomy software systems used for autonomous machines. Complex autonomy onboard system design work, subsystem testing or system integration. Requires specific knowledge of machine systems or automation technologies such as Path Planning, Perception and Positioning. Use technical automation knowledge combined with application/software development skills to develop high quality automation software. Translate complex program or subsystem requirements into actionable development efforts. Evaluate internal and external automation algorithms to decide which are most appropriate and develop algorithms and code quality software. Work closely with Component Hardware team members to select or understand the autonomy hardware (ECM’s sensors, etc.) that will be used. Use knowledge of complex, existing external automation solutions and algorithms to determine appropriateness, and if new algorithms are needed. Knowledge of existing internal automation applications and libraries is important to drive consistency. Both new application development and modifications to existing code bases will be done, requiring significant software development skills. Strong quality focus through unit testing of the developed code, and significant interaction with downstream integration points including Software in the Loop (SIL), Hardware in the Loop (HIL), Simulation, Substitute machine testing and actual machine testing. Advanced data analysis and systems analysis efforts and skills are needed to help troubleshoot complex issues from test or customer sites, and to examine information from test sites to improve overall systems performance. Communicate technical status updates, subsystem reviews, and when working closely with other system developers, support teams and testing staff in multiple geographic locations and organizations. Keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs and engage in continuous learning through self/internet study, as well as interaction with other autonomous engineers through conferences and papers. REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field plus 1 year of experience in design development of complex autonomous vehicles and deep C++ programming or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Testing or Validation of Autonomous systems such as perception, planning, or positioning on large mining equipment; (2) Ubuntu or Linux operating system(s) and reading and understanding code developed by others; (3) Testing or validation of on machine control systems, vehicles, engines or other technologies on large mining equipment; and (4) Troubleshooting issues in complex large mining equipment systems.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
