Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) for Emergency Department and Urgent Care

Full-time and Part-time openings. Day and night shifts.Will work with a team of providers to self-schedule allowing flexible hours for the provider and ensuring staffing needs of the 24/7 ED are met, including weekends and holidays. Sakakawea Medical Center is looking for an advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide quality, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient primary health care services to its patients consulting with supervising/collaborating physicians and abiding by appropriate protocols. The provider must be able to work independently. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Critical thinking. Ability to perform effectively in emergency and stressful situations. Capacity to deal with severely ill patients. Maturity and ability to establish good rapport with physicians, patients, the public, and staff.

Requirements Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Masters or Doctorate program. Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Hospital Medicine.

Licensed by the ND Board of Medical Examiners or as a Nurse Practitioner by the ND Board of Nursing. ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications are required. DEA license with unrestricted state practice.

Emergency department or inpatient experience of 1 year or more. Demonstrate the ability to work independently.

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities

  1. Provides care to patients of all ages - children to geriatrics.
  2. Triage, diagnose, assess, and treat patients in an ER and urgent care setting with appropriate consultation.
  3. Manage the health needs of patients with a significant range of complex and co-morbid disease conditions. Performs procedures and order tests as necessary.
  4. Initiates consults and arranges for or refers patients accordingly.
  5. Collaborate and coordinate patient care with physicians, nursing, health care personnel, and care team members for patients in the ER and Urgent Care.
  6. Document assessments and required tests/procedures electronically for all patients on admission as outlined by hospital policy.
  7. Establishes priorities in emergency care and provides necessary steps for stabilization. Contacts physician for emergency care and transfers appropriately.
  8. Commitment to quality and process improvement practices to make the hospital a safer place and improve patient outcomes.
  9. Utilizes e-Emergency when appropriate and as needed.

Other Duties

  1. Provides education to patients and family members.
  2. Provides emotional support to patient and family members.
  3. Plans and implements patient Plan of Care.
