Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Public Health Specialist I will perform and/or assist in performing activities related to physical inspections and surveys of facilities within the District Office jurisdiction to support the evaluation of environmental health conditions and document violations of the State Sanitary Code. The incumbent will also conduct emergency response work, collect environmental samples for laboratory testing; provide general information and technical assistance in response to emerging issues such as wastewater surveillance, Clean Green Schools or other public health programs; enter data into environmental health programs; and perform other appropriate related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a related field; OR an Associates degree in a related field and two years of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization field; OR four years of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related Natural Science. Experience in inspection of public water supply systems, public water system compliance. Data entry experience. Experience in the evaluation of environmental health conditions and/or regulatory code compliance at regulated facilities to improve health and safety of the public.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, 25%-50% of the time, will be required. A valid driver's license in good standing is required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.

This position requires occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and/or holidays.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
