About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Employees work a 4/10 work week, Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and daily childcare available. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center, (Mass transportation is available at minimal cost.) Responsibilities Operates all types of material equipment and motor vehicles up to a 40-ton capacity. Drive motor vehicle on highways at highway speed. Complies with safety rules and procedures. Direct movement of material determining appropriate docks and hold locations for assembling shipment/issue. Performs processing work by cleaning, drying, and applying preservatives to parts, tools, and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator (Direct Hiring Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Motor Vehicle Operator duties. I can check weight limitations of vehicles operated in accordance to state law regulations, determining best vehicle to use to transport cargo to its destination, and performing maintenance checks to ensure vehicles are in proper working order. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Required to turn the larger and heavier type vehicle, in addition to the smaller vehicles, and to operate the controls. Frequent handling of objects weighing 40 pounds while loading or unloading; making couplings between vehicles such as using heavy chains, bars, hooks, etc., which must be lifted and properly secured. Working Conditions: Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather on depot and public roads. The operator is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. The operator may be exposed to hazardous materials. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
