JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neural & Behavioral Sciences in Hershey, PA is seeking a full-time Research Technologist - Animal Sciences position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Andras Hajnal. The work in the lab is focused on neural and behavioral effects of diet-induced obesity and spinal cord injury.
The lab uses behavioral techniques to assess taste and food preferences, as well as molecular, histological and pharmacological techniques in rats. Prior experience with common molecular biological techniques is preferred for this position, along with experience with animal surgeries and perioperative animal care. Experience with brain tissue processing, immuno-cytochemistry and qRT-PCR is ideal. If desired and qualified, independent research opportunities will be available.
Management functions of the position include managing inventory and ordering of supplies and animals, act as liaison with Core Services, create/revise SOPs and help train students in lab techniques.
Candidates must be willing to learn new techniques and be responsible, self-motivated, a good communicator, and possess strong organizational skills Basic computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Office) are required. This position will be filled at an Professional or Intermediate Professional depending on the candidate's education and experience. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience required for higher level positions.
It is preferred that the successful candidate have a Bachelor's Degree, in a biological or biomedical science field, and requisite experience.
This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
