About the Opportunity

SUMMARY

This position reports to the General Manager, Distribution System Operations (NJ Distribution Operations).

The Holmdel / Morristown Distribution Control Center (DCC) is responsible for the Energy Delivery real-time operating performance across the JCP&L footprint

This position is primarily focused on the Holmdel DCC, with regard to: enforcement of and strict adherence to the Manual Of Operations with emphasis on ensuring the safety of the public, employees, and facilities; optimal and reliable performance of the assigned operating company electric distribution system including regulatory compliance, scheduled outage performance, storm management and restoration, and timely and accurate switching insutructions; collaboration with operating company leadership in the seamless integration of DCC and field operations including appropriate bargaining unit agreements; participation in operating company studies and projects to improve safety, reliability, customer satisfaction, efficiency or other aspects of operating company operations, adherence to Holmdel DCC Normal Operating Procedures; complete and accurate documentation of DCC operations; and ongoing coaching and development of direct reporting personnel.

The individual will interpret results and conduct analysis regarding operating company and overall DCC operations to re-evaluate processes, seek alternatives and implement appropriate improvements. The individual will build a close working relationship with the assigned operating company leadership by regular attendance at and participation in staff meetings, functional meetings, team meetings, company functions, and similar activities. The individual will work with the System Control Center (FE East).

Responsibilities :

  • Enforce strict adherence to the Manual Of Operations in all operations with emphasis on ensuring the safety of the public, employees and facilities, including the investigation and root cause resolution of all Switching Errors.

  • Coordinate operations with the System Control Center (FE East) to ensure safe operations and reliable electrical delivery across the footprint.

  • Coordindate operations with various departments and with foreign utilities and major customers to ensure any planned equipment outages involving mutual facilities result in minimal down-time.

  • Provide direction and oversight to DCC personnel and generally to the operating company to insure the proper course of action is taken to address significant electric system failures, storm events, and other abnormal operating situations.

  • Ensure adhearence to Normal Operating Procedures and Administrative Procedures within the Holmdel DCC to attain consistent, efficient, and high quality outcomes.

  • Ensure complete and accurate data and records of DCC operations are produced and appropriately archived to be readily available for regulatory, legal, operational and similar reporting purposes.

  • Ensure Holmdel DCC and field operations are integrated seemlessly, such as enforcing the usage of three-part communications, radio commuication usage during energizing steps, and similar required practices.

  • Work with operating company leadership on projects to improve system performance, reliability, and overal customer satisfaction

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a Professional Engineer's License preferred or equivalent related work experience. Related work experience is knowledge of distribution operations and Distribution Control Center Operations.

  • Minimum of 7 years' professional work experience.

  • Demonstrated past leadership in operational supervision and/or system operations duties.

  • Specialized training or equivalent work experience with an in-depth knowledge of electric theory, energy management and related information technology systems.

  • Thorough working understanding of system operations, electrical engineering, line/substation construction & maintenance practices as well as overall Energy Delivery operations.

  • Thorough working understanding of the Manual Of Operations, Accident Prevention Handbook, the National Electric Code, company policies and standards, and labor agreements in place within their assigned operating company and generally across the FE footprint .

  • Working knowledge of DCC information technology systems (NMS, DSCADA, ITOA, CREWS, WMI, GIS, SAP, etc.) and general office technologies such as Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Working knowledge of the regulatory requirements, particularly related to safety and reliability for the Penelec Operating Company.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data to drive insight and understanding leading to the formulation, verification and implementation of effective solutions.

  • Effective leadership skills in directing the work of others that will ensure safety and produce successful work results.

  • Effective leadership to evaluate talent needs and insure coaching is continuously applied to fully develop the potential of DCC personnel.

  • Excellent customer relations skills and strong communication skills including the ability to make clear, accurate and concise written and oral reports.

  • Availability to report to the Holmdel DCC in a timely manner on a 24 hours-per-day basis, including weekends and holidays as needed.
