DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Residential Program Worker assists those who are returning to the community after mental health hospitalization and/or preventing premature hospitalization. This work supports the consumer's efforts to reintegrate into or remain in his/her community, thus fostering his/her success in recovery and in building the confidence and self-reliance needed for full independent living in the community.

This position supports the consumer's efforts consistent with his/her Individual Service Plan (ISP) in implementing goals, plans and objectives. Responsibilities include training consumer in home safety protocols, sharing observations with Supervisor and MDT members as appropriate, documenting and/or charting observations, behaviors, and consumers progress in a timely manner. You may transport consumer when necessary in a county vehicle to appointments.

This position requires close contact with the consumer in his/her home environment. Workers in this capacity will work on shifts to assure 24-hour availability in a small facility in which a limited number of seriously mentally ill (SMI) consumers reside, each in their own apartment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Part-time employment. Approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday, with 30-minute lunch. Employee may have occasional overnight travel or out of County travel for meetings or training.  Often, irregular hours, including: evenings, holidays and weekends may be required. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Six months of experience as a Residential Program Trainee; or One year of experience in a Human Services Agency working with the mentally disabled, the elderly, or children and youth; or Two years of college which includes courses appropriate to the Human Services field; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, or Wayne counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
