Job Description
Job Overview:
Overall accountability for the leadership and management of the MI service within the International region
Accountable for ensuring inspection and audit readiness of MI service within the International region
Direct management of affiliate MI Leads in the International region
Partner with Global Strategic Capabilities team to ensure operational efficiency of MI service within the International region and participate in strategic initiatives to develop the service for the future
Accountable for ensuring that the MI function in the International region responds to unsolicited requests for information in an accurate, consistent, compliant, and timely manner
Ensure the identification, reporting and recording of adverse events and product complaints in a timely manner in accordance with SOPs
Proactively ensures that the International region MI departmental structure, support model, and allocation of resources meet anticipated changes in workload
Actively contribute to GMI strategy as a member of the Global Medical Information Leadership team
Responsibilities:
Routine responsibilities may include the following:
Provide strategic, personnel and budgetary oversight of the International region MI function
Overall performance of the department/team and reports in International region MI function
Develop, coach, and support the professional growth of individual staff members
Develop and implement plans to ensure the structure, scope, support model, and resources of the department can meet anticipated changes in workload
Continuously evaluate the scope of services of the International region MI service to ensure the department is maximizing both its collective talent and the value it brings to the organization; adjust accordingly
Work collaboratively with senior leadership, Country Medical Directors, and the TA leads in Medical Affairs to ensure the department is successfully supporting therapeutic area strategies
Work cross functionally across the Gilead enterprise and represent GMI on larger initiatives. Cross functional partners include, but are not limited to: Global Patient Safety, Quality and Medical Governance, Regulatory Affairs, Legal/Business Conduct, Medical Affairs
Work closely with the leaders of other GMI teams to ensure the practice of MI is consistently applied
Work closely with MI content leads and GMI TA teams to ensure appropriate MI response documents are available for use in the International region, and that regulatory inspection expectations are met
Act as lead contact for MI function in the International region for external regulatory inspections and the internal GxP audit program, liaising with direct reports and other functions as needed
Create, update, or implement policies, SOPs, business practices, and work instructions, including input to global SOP training curricula and responsibility for International MI SOP training curricula
Contribute to the implementation of new and innovative technologies impacting the provision of medical information
Analyze departmental metrics so that patterns, trends, and issues are identified and shared with senior management and other internal stakeholders
Provide leadership for business-critical initiatives and projects, as needed
Manage medical information service for Asia countries including handling of medical enquiries and contact centre oversight
Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese language preferred
Demonstrated leadership at an above-country level
Proven track record in working in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
Highly self-motivated and able to perform multiple tasks in a timely fashion
Excellent project management, analytical, strategic-thinking, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of applicable regulations regarding the dissemination of medical information, pharmaceutical industry promotional/non-promotional activities and adverse event and product quality complaint reporting
Demonstrated experience in setting strategy for MI and implementation of global objectives
Ability to effectively lead and motivate a highly talented group of employees across one or more countries/geographies
Education and Experience:
Pharmacy, Nursing or Medical/ Life Sciences degree/advanced degree or equivalent
Experience in leadership in MI or working in a healthcare environment required, with regional or global experience preferred
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
Experience of working with MI vendors desirable
People management experience required, including line management of a team of people managers (preferred)
Experience in setting strategy and implementation of global objectives
Levelling Guide (number of years does not apply in all affiliates (outside of the United States) due to local employment laws).
The number of years’ experience may be adjusted due to the experience of the individual and the specific role Typically requires previous experience minimum of 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry and 10 years in MI or Medical Scientific Communication.
