Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing individualized, age specific, goal directed care. The RN assesses the needs of the patient/client in order to develop a plan of care and then implements and evaluates the plan. The RN bases the plan of care on current nursing knowledge/skills and institutional methodology. The RN accepts assignments that are commensurate with his/her experience, knowledge and ability. The RN delegates tasks to the licensed and unlicensed personnel according to the Texas Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.

What you will do in this role:

  • Provides for care of multiple patients either through direct care or appropriate delegation to other team members

  • Provides direct patient care through clinical hourly rounding, anticipating and responding to needs

  • Provides care to the stroke patient consistent with best-practice guidelines (Stroke Core Measure) compliance.

  • Provides care to the acute coronary syndrome patient consistent with best-practice guidelines (Society of Chest Pain measures) and compliance.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary approach to improve Core Measures performance with Inpatient measures

  • Participates in multidisciplinary approach to improve communication among caregivers for the patient

  • Participates in multidisciplinary approach to decrease hospital acquired conditions

  • Participates in multidisciplinary approach to improve throughput for all patients from bed assignment to arrival to room with the goal of <60 minutes and a stretch time of 30 minutes under the direction and supervision of the licensed staff

  • Gathers data relevant to the patient's individual, age specific needs and disease process

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments of health status of patients

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments and documents accurately for the management of pain for the patient

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessments and documents accurately for the management of restraints (when applicable) for the patient

  • Documents appropriate and accurate data in the medical record

  • Formulates a nursing care plan based on determination of nursing diagnoses

  • Implements nursing care within the RN’s scope of practice

  • Develops and implements teaching plans for patients concerning promotion, maintenance and restoration of health

  • Participates in multidisciplinary, discharge planning to ensure proper continuum of care and to support throughput goals either through direct care or appropriate delegation to other team members

  • Utilize critical thinking approach to all nursing activities

  • Participates in continuing education and in-service training in order to maintain current nursing knowledge/skills to perform job responsibilities

  • Ensures a safe environment for the patient.

  • Provides culturally competent care.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Registered Nurse

  • Prefer 1 year clinical experience

  • Associate Degree

  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Cour, or PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
