Position Summary Information

General Summary

The Materials Handler II receives stock, issues materials, inputs data into the inventory system, investigates stock overages/shortages, and participates in inventory/cycle counts. Additionally, the Materials Handler II makes deliveries to various WSSC Water facilities and ensures safe operation and routine maintenance of power equipment used to handle materials.

Essential Functions

· Performs duties such as receiving stocking and issuing material and inputting data into the computer inventory system, investigating stock overages/shortages, participating in inventories and cycle counts, etc.

· Operates vehicles requiring a CDL , including a boom truck/flat bed making scheduled deliveries, loading and unloading materials as well as equipment

· Operates intermediate and heavy powered equipment used in materials handling, including front-end loaders to load or off-load earth, gravel, and other bulk materials, and forklifts used to load and unload material deliveries, including operation of any accessories that may be installed on equipment

· Adheres to WSSC Water safety regulations as established by OSHA and the state of Maryland

· Performs routine maintenance in cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining powered equipment such as lubricating fittings, inspecting transmission, cooling, engine, and hydraulic levels; and checks brakes, fuel, tires, air cleaners, etc., prior to operation

· Maintains warehouse store yard in a clean and orderly condition

· Assists in routine preventative maintenance on materials stored in the store yard

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

· Good knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of one or more types of heavy motor equipment

· Good knowledge of general and preventative maintenance procedures of a variety of powered equipment

· Working knowledge of heavy equipment operating capabilities, lifting capabilities, and weights of common construction and maintenance materials

· Skill in eye, hand, and foot coordination

· Ability to adhere to OSHA and Maryland State safety regulations

· Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, technical manuals, traffic regulations, and engineering drawings

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

· High School diploma (or equivalent)

· 1+ years’ experience receiving stock & issuing materials, researching stock discrepancies, and performing inventory work

Additional Requirements

· Possession of a valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain a WSSC Water driver’s permit within 90 days of hire

· Possession of or ability to attain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) within 6 months of hire

· Must successfully obtain a DOT medical card

· Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
