Position Overview:

The Loan Processor is responsible for performing routine operational duties related to mortgage loans in compliance with policies, procedures and related laws and regulations. Prepares and sends out initial disclosures to loan applicants; originates processes loan documentation under guidance of supervisor. Responsible for preparing applications and various other paperwork for delivery to the underwriter. Once approved by the underwriter, the Loan Processor is responsible for facilitating the completion of all closing documents, handling the signing of closing documents, funding loan proceeds, properly filing all necessary documentation, ensuring the recording of deeds of trust and any other applicable documents, assisting in the quality control process and record retention. Reviews files for completeness and to assure that approved underwriting guidelines are being followed. Performs a variety of support duties related to the lending function.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the loan process by verifying information in all loan files, ordering documents needed to complete the files, updating information on the computer system
  • Handles problems/resolutions with credit union members, appraisers, title companies, realtors, brokers, all other 3rd party vendor partners, as well as internal staff. May handle escalated issues from Jr Underwriter
  • Works on various types of loans, including less common or less routine loans
  • May assist in training junior or less experienced team members
  • Completes data entry of new loan bookings, loan disbursing, loan file maintenance, research, and servicing of all loan types on the loan operation system
  • Opens new accounts
  • Performs loan processing functions including, but not limited to, data entry, filing, document preparation, auditing, and quality assurance
  • Reviews documentation for completeness and compliance with existing laws, statues, regulations and credit union policies and procedures
  • Ascertains, resolves, and/or escalates problems that may impact the CUs ability to disburse proceeds; prepares the necessary reports noting exceptions to policy and originating for review by management
  • Prepares regular and ad hoc reports
  • Provides general support in key areas such as application data entry, scanning and various other administrative tasks
  • Performs routine office duties
  • Provides exceptional internal and external member service
  • Understands, applies, and complies with all Credit Union Policies and Procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations, and adheres to requirements set forth by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
  • Completes other assigned duties commensurate with position

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school graduate or equivalent and two years of financial industry experience
  • A minimum of two years mortgage processor experience required
  • Operate a computer with proficiency of MS Office; Excellent knowledge of report software and processes
  • Experience working with a loan operating systems and loan documentation systems
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills
  • Good math skills to calculate payments, taxes, balance ledgers, etc.
  • Perform job functions independently with limited supervision; work effectively on own and as part of team. Must be able to cooperate well with others
  • Knowledge of procedures and requirements pertaining to mortgage lending
  • Understanding of credit union member service requirements and products provided by the organization
  • Communicate with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in person and over the phone
  • Ability to read and carry out various written instruction and follow verbal directions
  • Must remain composed in stressful, high-pressure situations. Calmly and professionally handle different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service
  • Demonstrate extreme accuracy and quality, remain highly organized, effectively handle multiple tasks and changing priorities, and exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external matters
  • Reports to work regularly; maintains reliable and timely attendance. Available to work the days and hours as dictated by business needs including up to two Saturdays a month if applicable.

Physical Requirements:

Perform primarily stationary work (80%) with limited physical exertion; occasional light lifting up to 10 lbs. Bending and twisting to reach forms, pens, and miscellaneous items.
