Role Overview:

You will serve as the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor at Stout Field. You will assist the State Facilities Office in fully developing scoping requirements and estimates on maintenance projects. You will provide initial diagnosis of problems within their facilities or obtain assistance from others within the organization. You will evaluate whether the repair or replacement recommendations are valid using your knowledge of the facility. You will initiate requests for engineering design studies and identify needs for maintenance, repair or construction project support driven either by facility conditions or by a change in the facility’s use. You will perform maintenance, repair, and minor construction on the various facilities, equipment and systems of Stout Field. You will manage the Stout Field Maintenance Shop, supervising all tradespersons in the maintenance, repair and minor construction projects on the facilities, equipment and systems of Stout Field.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Plan the short-term daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities and deadlines.

  • Establish schedules and methods for providing facility and maintenance services.

  • Identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources.

  • Assign and delegate work to subordinates, spot check routine work, and review more complex or unusual projects.

  • Maintain operational systems to monitor and track work orders, preventative maintenance logs, safety reports, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and standard trade practices related to quality standards.

  • Regularly inspect property for safety and security concerns.

  • Install, inspect, repair, and maintain the electrical, plumbing, sewage, mechanical, and other related systems in facility locations.

  • Inspect, operate, and maintain the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems (including boiler system) in all facility locations.

  • Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment, and contract work according to required purchasing and bidding procedures.

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.

  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

  • Three (3) years of experience in maintenance, construction, or related experience. Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience in these areas.

  • Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.

  • Advanced knowledge of variety of trades related to installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other related systems in all facility locations.

  • Advanced knowledge of the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the building and mechanical trades.

  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules governing repair, maintenance, and construction of facilities.

  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret detailed plans and specifications.

  • Ability to make long-range plans, schedule preventative maintenance and seasonal maintenance, and prioritize routine and emergency repairs.

  • Estimate repair and construction project costs.

  • Ability to lead a multi-discipline team both as supervisor and in a technical capacity.

  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
