Job Title: Machine Operator Team Lead
Job Description
The Team Lead Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and productive operation of machines, including Granulator, Shredder, Color System, Wet Sorter System, and/or Extruder. This role involves material handling and ensuring the production of high-quality products. As a working lead, you will spend most of your time performing machine operator tasks, with additional responsibilities in coaching, training, and reporting on production and scrap performance for your shift.
Responsibilities
Understand, follow, and apply information from the Run Instruction Sheet (RIS).
Set up, run, shut down, troubleshoot, clean system, and perform general maintenance of machines.
Take regular samples and systematically probe boxes as directed by RIS. Report discrepancies to lab personnel and supervisor.
Thoroughly clean boxes, lids, and skids before use. Dispose of any substandard material prior to reuse.
Complete the Run Number Time Log at the end of each shift.
Update RIS as needed and pass information to the supervisor promptly.
Keep work area clean and organized throughout the shift.
Maintain and properly complete logs for production ledgers (inbound, outbound, rejects, and run) and quality control.
Complete Work in Process (WIP) or Ready for Sale (RFS) tags.
Compute weights using correct gross, tare, and net figures.
Weigh material in boxes and hoppers, and record weights accurately.
Become certified on both a forklift and aerial lift as needed.
Assist with training new associates.
Load and unload material and place it into inventory locations using forklift or pallet jack.
Compute pounds per hour processed during runs.
Compute percentages to document various run conditions and productivity standards.
Prepare boxes for material by placing labels correctly and removing extra labels.
Participate in shift meetings and training sessions.
Essential Skills
Machine Operation Experience (ideally 1+ year)
At least 1 year of Team Lead experience in a manufacturing environment
Capacity for making mathematical computations with adding, subtracting, and calculating percentages
Good handwriting for maintaining records
Experience troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment
Sit down forklift experience
Ability to stand for the duration of the shift outside of breaks
Ability to lift up to 65 lbs, not repetitively
Comfortable with heights (up to 25 feet with harness)
Steel toed or composite toed shoes
Ability to work mandated Saturdays if business dictates

Work Environment
The work environment is a traditional manufacturing setting with large machines that separate plastics materials. The systems are very large, sometimes two stories high, and there is some dust and noise associated with the plant. Hearing and eye protection is required, and employees must be willing to climb stairs or use an aerial lift to troubleshoot and fix jams. Although it is a plastics recycling facility, the environment is not dirty. The role is for the 2nd Shift, 3:30 pm - 12:00 am (Monday to Friday), with occasional mandated Saturdays if business needs dictate.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
