Alaska State Job Bank Wastewater Treatment Operator (OIT I - Operator FLEX) in Juneau, Alaska

City and Borough of Juneau, Public Works and Engineering Department is hiring a Wastewater Treatment Operator-in-Training I/II - WWT Operator (Flex) to join the team at the Juneau Douglas Wastewater Treatment Plant.

NOTE:This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidates qualifications. If hired at the lower level, the successful applicant will be promoted to the higher level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the higher level, completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work as determined by the supervisor.

This position welcomes both entry/trainee level candidates and experienced, certified wastewater treatment operators. Candidates with minimal to no experience may qualify for an on-the-job training program, while those with certification may qualify for reciprocity assistance. Supervisors/Leads will define work assignments, monitor progress, and provide feedback, with tasks becoming more advanced over time. Promotion eligibility is based on meeting minimum qualifications and specific criteria. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION This position involves shift work that includes days, nights, weekends, holidays, and being on-call. Additionally, this position also requires recalls for emergencies and weather events. While the base of operations for this position is the Mendenhall Wastewater Treatment Facility, there is work required in and around the Juneau-Douglas and Auke Bay Wastewater Treatment facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training I(Range 10)Step 1$22.08 -Step 3$23.56 hourly - Depending on Qualifications (DOQ) Education: High school graduation or GED certificate.

License: A valid Driver's Licenseat time of appointment(and for continued employment).

Other: Attendance at and certification (as available) in CPR, First Aid and Confined Space Entrywithin six (6) months of appointment(and for continued employment).

Certifications: Within one (1) year of appointment must obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Provisional (P)Certificate issued by the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Incumbents are required to advance to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator level for continued employment.

Operators must obtain one certification per year until they reach the prescribed level of certification to retain employment with the CBJ Wastewater Utility.

Position Requirements includeability and willingness to work rotating day and night shifts, holidays, weekends, scheduled and emergency overtime, and be available or required on-call duty; performing work year-round; maintaining physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

[Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training II(Range 11)[Step 1$23.56 -Step 3$25.15 hourly[- Depending on Qualifications (DOQ) Education: High school graduation or GED certificate.

License: A valid Driver's Licenseat time of appointment(and for continued employment).

Other: Attendance at and certification (as available) in CPR, First Aid and Confined Space Entrywithin six (6) months of appointment(and for continued employment).

[Certifications: The incumbent must possess a valid Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Provisional (P) Certificate issued by the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Within one (1) year of appointment as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator-in-Training I, employee must obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Level I issued by the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.
