BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P SN KEY ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT Department of the P CUSTOMER RELATIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for planning and managing MECO’s Commercial and Industrial Demand-Side Management (DSM) programs, Marketing and Technical Services activities. Directs the implementation of strategies for large-customer retention, promoting the use of innovative and efficient electrotechnologies, load management, renewable energy, and new core products and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises the planning, programming, implementation/administration and evaluation of MECO’s commercial and industrial Demand-Side Management (DSM) programs and their integration into the Company’s long-range resource planning process. Responsible for the development of the large customer and commercial and industrial DSM sales and peak load components of the Company’s forecasts for regulatory and operational purposes. Serves as the Company’s expert witness in energy conservation and commercial and industrial DSM.

  • Develops and implements strategies and key actions identified for large customer retention, promoting the use of innovative and efficient electrotechnologies, load management, renewable energy, and new core products and services. Directs the administration of energy services and marketing functions including commercial and residential customer assistance for energy efficiency, conservation, load management, electrotechnologies, renewable energy, rate analysis and technical matters.

  • Oversees all divisional personnel matters including work schedules, performance appraisals, interviews, employee recognition, disciplinary action, safety, two-way communications, total quality management, teamwork, and training and development. Provides effective leadership, coaching, support and guidance to build and maintain a high performance, high productivity and high morale team.

  • Determines and manages the Division’s O&M, capital, and commercial and industrial DSM budgets.

  • Responsible for developing and ensuring divisional procedures are consistent with company tariff, PUC general orders, relevant Hawaii Administrative Rules and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of marketing and project management principles and concepts usually acquired through marketing, project management, and/or engineering experience.

  • Working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in long-range resource and DSM planning principles including surcharge recovery mechanisms and regulatory filings.

  • Working knowledge of utility and engineering economics.

  • Working knowledge of utility finance and accounting.

  • Working knowledge of company tariffs and rate schedules, and PUC decisions and orders. Basic knowledge of relevant PUC precedents, and regulatory policies and procedures. Demonstrated success in marketing of electrical or mechanical products and services, normally acquired through college level courses and hands-on experience in marketing roles or consulting engineering positions is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or engineering science and appropriate education and experience required in order to effectively consult with customers and manage energy efficiency, conservation, load management, renewable energy, and technical projects. Graduate degree in one of the above fields preferred. Thorough understanding of electrical and/or mechanical engineering and marketing principles are required. Additional course work or equivalent experience in accounting and finance with the ability to perform basic financial analysis is required.

  • Extensive working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, end use engineering models, building simulations models, presentation and graphics software, and database is required.

    Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal and team-building skills. Strong technical electrical and/or mechanical engineering skills. Ability to manage long-term, complex, multi-disciplined projects.

  • Demonstrated strong and effective interpersonal salesmanship skills. Ability to inform, influence, and persuade key decision makers and senior level executives while building constructive and productive customer relationships.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, planning and administrative skills.

  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills. Experience making presentations one-on-one and to small and large groups.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals and handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while meeting the expectations of internal and external customers.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

    Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7 or more years) experience in supervising the administration of energy services and/or similar marketing and project management functions including commercial and residential customer assistance for energy efficiency, conservation, load management, renewable energy, electric utility rate analyses and customer relations. Graduate level education in one or more of these areas is also desirable and will meet the experience requirement on a year for year basis.

  • Extensive (7 or more years) experience in DSM program planning, programming, implementation/administration and evaluation.

  • Several years (3-5) experience in preparing PUC/regulatory filings is highly desirable.

  • Several years (3-5) supervisory and/or project management experience in a related field.
