API Inspector

Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Certified API Inspector for a direct hire position with a manufacturer of chemical and pharmaceutical ingredients located in the Kankakee/Bourbonnais area. Overview

This client is manufacturer of chemicals and ingredients used in the pharmaceutical, personal care and industrial chemical industries.

In this role you’ll execute NDE Inspection on pressure vessels and piping to ensure mechanical integrity of plant equipment. You’ll have oversight of overpressure devices including changing inspection frequencies based on current inspection results. You’ll provide field level support for reliability efforts, innovation, and continuous improvement. You’ll make repair recommendations, write and maintain inspection reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes and requirements such as: BC032.018, N-P-MC-105, N-G-MC-105, OSHA CFR 1910.119, API 510, API 570, API 653, API 579, ANSI B31.1, ANSI 31.3, ANSI 31.5, ASME B31G, NBIC NB23 and other regulatory requirements.

  • Perform nondestructive inspections including Visual Inspections (VT), Ultrasonic Thickness (UT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), etc.

  • Provide technical input for:

  • Appropriate inspection techniques based upon expected damage mechanisms, such as corrosion, fatigue, Stress Cracking and required analyses.

  • Welding techniques, welding procedures, quality control, and weld inspection techniques:

  • Repair techniques and procedures on fixed equipment and plant piping systems.

  • Inspection Reporting:

  • Analyze and authenticate inspection results for: completeness and accuracy including minimum wall thickness, corrosion rates for predicting remaining life, additional types or extent of NDT testing, and disposition of report based upon findings.

  • Generate reports detailing the equipment identifier, the name of the inspector(s), date of the inspection, type of inspection, the description results of inspections, and recommended re-inspection frequencies.

  • Oversee 3rd party inspectors performing advanced and specialized inspection techniques, such as B Scans, C Scans, Guided Wave Technology, Digital Radiography, etc.

  • Satisfy special requests for equipment/piping inspection and/or witnessed acceptance testing on and off-site as necessary.

  • Support failure analysis and problem-solving activities in plants to resolve short- and long-term problems.

  • Support Capital Projects by performing offsite and onsite inspections of process equipment such as heat exchangers, tanks, and other fabricated equipment, to ensure that proper engineering specifications are followed and accurately constructed including dimensions, nozzle orientation, lining integrity, pressure, etc.

  • Adhere to all GMP Standards/Requirements.

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma, Associate Degree a plus

  • At least 2 of any of the following API Inspector Certifications: API 510 (Pressure Vessel), API 653 (atm vessel) or API 570 (piping)

  • 3+ years’ experience in either the design/build, repair or inspection of pressure vessels or piping

  • Must have a broad knowledge base relating to maintenance, inspection, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels.

  • Must have a broad knowledge base relating to pressure safety devices.

  • Demonstrate positive, proactive leadership and teamwork behaviors.

  • Achieve significant improvement in safety, cost, efficiency, and employee goals.

  • High sense of urgency

  • SAP, and Microsoft office experience preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with facts and figures along with the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate. Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Work collaboratively with multiple diverse stakeholders, including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, Stores, Accounting, Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, Site Leadership Team, Manufacturing Support Services, etc.

  • Be able to lift 60 lbs., walk, sit, squat, bend, push/pull with arms/legs, body, reach overhead, stoop.

  • Available for flexible hours and overtime as required to support Maintenance activities including shutdown both planned and un-planned.

  • The process problems include dealing with the technical difficulties of corrosive and hazardous chemicals and operating temperatures up to 2400°F.
