Kilgore College Coordinator - Counseling in Kilgore, Texas

Position summary:

The Coordinator of Counseling is responsible for leading, managing, and supervising the College’s Counseling Services, including the functions of personal counseling, referrals, and workshops. This person also serves as THECB designated Foster Child liaison. The Coordinator of Counseling offers confidential, short-term individual and group mental health services and campus-wide programming to provide support, education, and healthy ways of coping with stressors and struggles.

Position responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions for students experiencing emotional, psychological, or behavioral issues.

  • Conduct initial assessments and maintain accurate and confidential records of all counseling sessions.

  • Offer crisis intervention and emergency services as needed.

  • Develop and facilitate workshops and programs on topics related to mental health, stress management, and personal development.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive mental health programs that address the needs of the student population.

  • Coordinate mental health awareness campaigns, workshops, and outreach activities.

  • Collaborate with other departments and student organizations to integrate mental health initiatives across campus.

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the counseling services office, including scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Maintain compliance with all relevant legal, ethical, and institutional standards and policies.

  • Collect and analyze data on service utilization and outcomes to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and administration to identify students in need of mental health support.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external mental health professionals and agencies to provide referrals and additional support services.

  • Serve as a liaison between the counseling center and the college community, promoting a culture of mental health and wellness.

  • Stay current with developments in the field of mental health and counseling through ongoing professional development and continuing education.

  • Participate in campus committees and initiatives related to student health and well-being.

    Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree with an emphasis in education, psychology, social work, counseling, student services, or related field.

  • LMSW or LPC required, or equivalent counseling certification preferred. 

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a counseling-related position is preferred. 

  • Must be able to relate to students, faculty, staff, and other constituents in a professional and service-oriented manner.

  • This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

  • The ability to multi-task and manage time effectively is essential.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment; however, evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.

  • This position requires a valid Texas driver’s license.

  • This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.

  • Sufficient dexterity, agility, and physical condition to perform routine.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

    Position responsibilities:

  • Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is $55,429.

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program.
