Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Leads and instructs Patient Care Host/Hostess’s engaged in serving meals. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal (birth to 30 days), pediatric (30 days through 12 years), adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Assists the Supervisors in overseeing the daily functions of meal service.

  • Maintains and improves standards of food preparation and meal service.

  • Assists in service recovery issues and documents all outcomes

  • Assigns tasks to Patient Care Host/Hostesses and Food Service Workers.

  • Completes and/or assists in the work schedule of the Patient Care Hosts and Food Service Workers to also include arranging daily work schedules and daily line up sheets.

  • Must have an indepth knowledge of how units operate and of all jobs in the kitchen so effective changes in daily assignments can be made when there are call outs or when short staffed

  • Must be able to open and close the kitchen and take full responsibility of the kitchen to support a Supervisor when they are out on PTB and ensure uninterrupted meal service to patients.

  • Understands all aspects of the Patient Care Host/Hostess position so as to be able to fill in on a unit to provide complete meal service to patients when short staffed.

  • Oversees and assigns cleaning to the Patient Care Host/Hostesses and Food Service Workers to assure that all sanitation and regulatory guidelines are met.

  • Responsible for training of the Patient Care Host/Hostesses and Food Service Workers to include all diet, safety, and regulatory training.

  • Audits all food carts for patient allergies, textured diets/thickened liquids, and prescribed supplements before tray delivery to the units.

  • Charges and credits to patient accounts daily tube feeds.

  • Acts as a liaison between Nursing and Food Service enabling collaboration between departments for ways to improve meal service to patients

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Process diet changes.

  • Maintains patient records in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Commission on Accreditation and compliance with all DOH standards for patient meal service.

  • Meals on Wheels support.

  • Ability to conduct interviews with potential Patient Care Host and Food Service Worker candidates

  • Assists Department Safety Champion with staff safety concerns and maintaining safety board

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Six (6) months experience in a hospital Food Service/dietary department (preferably as a Patient Care Host/Hostess), or as a manager of a cafeteria or dining room of a hotel or restaurant.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ServSafe Certification

Software: Microsoft Office Products and basic understanding of Epic. Knowledge of iPhones and pagers.
