Overview

Technical Writer (IRAP):

Bowhead is seeking a Technical Writer to translate complex federal policy into clear, concise, and understandable contentfor the Information Resources Accessibility Program (IRAP) Section 508 office. The Section 508 Program Office is an organization within the US Department of the Treasury's, Office of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that provides agency wide support Assistive Technology (AT) as a reasonable accommodations and technical Section 508 guidance for IRS projects and Agency initiatives.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Read complex federal policy with the ability to translate that in to written processes and guidance. Write guidance in a way that is effective and reduces burden.

  • Take technical language and make it understandable to a non-technical audience.

  • Plan, write, edit, and revise IRM (Internal Revenue Manuals) and IRS documents. Artifacts include SOPs, templates, documentation, timelines, explanations, decisions, and citations.

  • Transform complex federal policy into simple concepts that are easy to understand by the end-users.

  • Evaluate the user feedback to retrieve information on documentation and use it to enhance usability.

  • Someone who can envision how AI can assist the IRS a plus. Using the power of Large Language modules to assist the writing is ideal.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer documenting concepts and standards (e.g. accessibility standards).

  • 5+ years of experience writing clear, concise, and accurate documents, technical specifications, reports, brochures, manuals, or publications for external audiences.

  • The candidate shall have a vision for compliance and the ability to understand government processes.

  • Able to communicate effectively in an accurate and concise manner through written and verbal means to project leadership and teams.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and independently with minimal guidance.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to pass an IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI). US Citizenship is a requirement for a MBI clearance at this location.
