WEBER BASIN WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT Learning Garden and Education Lead in LAYTON, Utah

Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is Northern Utah's Regional Water Supplier for: treated municipal water, wholesale irrigation water, retail secondary irrigation water, untreated industrial water and groundwater replacement water. We proudly serve the water needs in Davis, Weber, Summit, Morgan and Box Elder counties.

We are looking to fill a Learning Garden and Education Lead position.

ABOUT THE JOB

This position is primarily responsible for the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the District's Learning Garden with a higher expected outdoor workload during the active gardening season, typically March through November. This includes maintenance of the irrigation systems, planting, weeding, pruning and all other assignments and tasks needed to keep the garden in a clean, well-maintained condition and provide the public atmosphere expected in a high-profile public garden.

This position will be responsible for coordinating the daily tasks of seasonal staff, working with and supervising those staff in their work as they assist in the maintenance and day to day activities required to keep the garden looking great.

This position interacts with the public to a large degree both in person and over the phone and will use critical thinking skills to help people with questions related to District conservation programs, troubleshooting landscape problems, fixing broken or failing irrigation parts, and use current technology in the garden and in the office to perform the job successfully. This position will assist with the landscape education programs and garden events through public presentations, assisting with all educational classes and will produce and coordinate written or verbal reports to managers and others related to garden activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (The education and experience requirements for this job may be satisfied by any acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.)

Education: Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in plant sciences such as biology, botany, horticulture, natural resources, or other related subjects preferred.

Experience: At least one year of prior job-related experience is preferred.

Knowledge: Experience with landscape maintenance and the use of hand tools and small landscape power tools. Knowledge and experience operating basic office machines such as copiers, adding machine, printers, phones, and fax. Basic understanding of common landscape plant material including annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs. Ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups of both small and large on topics of conservation and landscaping.
