Matrix Service Sr Project Controls/Scheduler in Leduc, Alberta

Job Summary

The Sr. Project Controls/Scheduler will have dual roles - responsible for performing non-routine scheduling assignments, which require the selection and application of resource monitoring principles, techniques and technical knowledge of a project. They will also be responsible for oversight of project controls efforts at projects, relating to timely analysis, and reporting. Works closely with operational and functional management on development, maintenance of supporting systems, applications, and continuous reporting of key project indicators.

Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its Core Values.

  • Performs tasks required to develop and maintain schedules for a portion of the project. Includes collecting actual and quantities per schedules, assessing progress data supplied by others, and visual inspections.

  • Develops detailed schedules with management. May collect data from a variety of sources including A/E, client, other contractors, etc.

  • Interfaces with other departments to provide scheduling data for items such as subcontract change requests, bid comparisons, new work item estimates and resolution of potential work schedule problems.

  • Develops and maintains daily, weekly, and monthly analysis and reporting.

  • Responsible for the development, administration, storing, updating, and review, approval, and distribution of labor rate billing sheets to operational and project management and functional departments for applicable clients, project, and sites.

  • Responsible for workforce reporting, cost multipliers, per diem, labor rate and other project specific analysis.

  • May provide direction and on-the-job training to clerical and entry-level professional personnel assigned to area of responsibility.

  • Works closely with others to ensure proper hours are reported at the start of the jobs.

  • Communicates with the shop superintendent for changes to the cost book.

  • Assigns production hours to jobs from the cost book, quotes or from historical data.

  • Maintains the cost book issued to the Regions by accumulating historical data from actual jobs.

  • Performs job reviews comparing estimates and planned jobs to actual.

  • Works closely with Project Managers to ensure jobs are entered properly and timely.

  • Provides support for job costing work, providing a detailed invoice for hard dollar jobs, time and material jobs, and seals for inside jobs.

  • Develops, maintains, and reviews Progress and Productivity Reporting.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of project and proposal schedules.

  • Monitors cost and schedule performance of key vendors and subcontractors.

  • Actively supports multiple work sites and different services lines.

  • Performs other related responsibilities, as directed. Assists with special projects that may arise.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of engineering or similar scheduling experience; previous fabrication experience preferred, or equivalent combinations of training and/or related experience.

  • Experience with Aboveground Storage Tanks is preferred.

  • Extremely proficient with Primavera (P6), MS Project, specifically, Microsoft Excel.

  • Working knowledge of and ability to select and apply resource monitoring and control techniques, such as scheduling, computer scheduling techniques, etc.

  • Thorough understanding of the nature of process systems, structures and fabrication technology required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

  • Ability to prioritize projects, work on multiple projects and work with multiple deadlines.

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to read drawings/blueprints.
