Argonne National Laboratory Clean Technology Project Coordinator in Lemont, Illinois

Argonne’s Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) Division seeks a Clean Technology Project Coordinator to support its workforce development, community engagement, environmental justice, and mobility equity programming being implemented across the nation.

The Clean Technology Project Coordinator will support programs in TAPS’ Sustainable Transportation Education & Partnerships (STEP) Department, focusing on deploying workforce and community engagement programs at clean energy and mobility technology hubs that will accelerate our nation’s clean energy transition while ensuring that employment opportunities and other benefits from these hubs can flow to historically disadvantaged communities and populations. STEP is collaborating with industry, government, academic, and community partners across the United States as they implement manufacturing and demonstration projects spanning electrified mobility and battery supply chains, manufacturing of battery cells and electric vehicles, clean energy systems including Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) systems, and battery recycling facilities. Each of these deployments will require equitable engagement with surrounding communities to familiarize them with new technologies, build up educational ecosystems to establish critical skills from community members, and conduct workforce recruitment and training activities designed to prioritize involvement from disadvantaged communities and populations.

The successful candidate will also support the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions, which builds next generation automotive engineers and clean energy and sustainable transportation leaders, and the Clean Cities and Communities Energy and Environmental Justice Initiative which enables a community-first approach to developing equitable transportation projects with underserved communities.

As a member of STEP’s Applied Research, Education, and Deployment (ARED) group, the Clean Technology Project Coordinator will utilize their experience in community engagement, workforce development and STEM education, environmental justice and equity considerations along with familiarity in electrified mobility and clean technology subjects (vehicle electrification, EV charging and deployment, clean energy deployments, etc.) to support the department’s diverse portfolio. The selected candidate will also work in close partnership with STEP staff, sponsors and other stakeholders to execute high-impact workshops, training, panel discussions, reports and other technical and communications assets to help inform stakeholders and prepare the future workforce for careers in clean energy and sustainable transportation.

Position Requirements

  • Prior project experience with workforce development, community engagement, and equity concepts.

  • Knowledge of batteries, electric mobility, and clean energy technologies.

  • Knowledge of design for equity and user-centered design principles.

  • Skills in program management, including managing a project team, project schedules, budgets and meeting project goals and objectives.

  • Skills in leadership, time management and working as a team member.

  • Skill in fundraising and interacting with external sponsors.

  • Oral and written communication skills, including professional presentations and technical writing.

  • Skill in MS Word, Excel, Project, Access, and PowerPoint computer software.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

  • Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA1 or PA2) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position. The requirements for the desired levels are as follows:

  • PA1: Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of applicable experience.

  • PA2: Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of applicable experience.
