Argonne National Laboratory Ergonomist in Lemont, Illinois

The Ergonomist is a member of the Health and Employee Wellness team and will assess, design, and implement tailored ergonomic solutions. They will contribute to improving workplace conditions, preventing injuries, and enhancing overall employee satisfaction and productivity. This onsite position will report to Physical Therapy Program Manager and collaborate with safety professionals, management, and staff across the laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with our Physical Therapy team to expand and improve our existing ergonomics initiatives.

  • Observes, analyzes, and documents the movements, activities, and workspace of a diverse group of workers, including in an industrial or laboratory environment

  • Identifies the physical and mental demands of a job and evaluates whether they are ergonomically sound

  • Makes recommendations to reduce the potential for injuries or illnesses caused by work, particularly repetitive work, physically demanding work, and work with significant hazards

  • Identifies and implements ways to minimize workplace hazards, including proactively identifying new hazards that accompany new research projects

  • Establishes good relationships with workers and supervisors to facilitate cooperation with ergonomic best practices

  • Provides tailored and impactful ergonomic training to employees regularly

  • Trains a core group of in-the-field ergonomic advocates who can help recognize ergonomic challenges at the time of work and recommend simple solutions when appropriate

  • Stays current with industry trends, research, and best practices in ergonomics to continually enhance programs and services

  • Develops and maintains robust metrics on ergonomic solutions’ implementation and impact

Position Requirements

  • National Board Certification (Board Certified Professional Ergonomist)

  • Bachelors in Ergonomics or similar field of study and 4+ years of experience

  • Experience with industrial ergonomic assessments

  • Deep understanding of human anatomy, ergonomics, and human factors

  • Familiarity with legal regulations and industry best practices related to ergonomics

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect and interpret data

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to successfully engage with a diverse group of stakeholders.

  • Strong writing skills to develop ergonomic reports that include findings and recommendations based on industry standards.

  • Resourceful and creative problem-solving skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as:

  • Ergonomics or Human Factors Engineering

  • Applied Psychology

  • Industrial Design

  • Physical Therapy

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Occupational Health and Safety

  • Kinesiology
