Allen County Dog Warden Kennel Technician in Lima, Ohio

Classification Title:  Kennel Technician

 

Employee Status: Part-Time

Reports To: Operations Manager

Location: Allen County Dog Control Facility

Salary Range: $13 an hour (Based on Experience)

 

Part Time Hours of Service:

  • Primarily morning hours; 20-24 hours per week
  • Work hours vary based upon staffing
  • Will include weekends & Holidays

     

Distinguishing Job Characteristics:

The Kennel Tech is responsible for the cleaning of animal cages & the facility, and also for proper animal care.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Has regular and predictable attendance
  • Cleans kennel and facility
  • Feed/water animals and other animal care as needed
  • Does laundry as needed
  • Assists with dog licensing process as required
  • Assists public with animal selection, adoption, claim, and surrender process
  • Other duties as assigned

     

     

Scope of Supervision: None

 

Equipment Operated and Used:

Office equipment such as computer, typewriter, telephone; animal snare / catch poles, and other animal control devices sanctioned by the Dog Warden.

 

Contacts With Others:

General public, other animal facilities

 

At no time shall any Kennel Tech personnel make public statements to reporters or any type of local media without the express consent of the Dog Warden.

 

Confidential Data:

Information which is not considered a public record under Ohio Revised Code 149.43.

 

Working Conditions:

Often exposed to heat, cold, and other inclement weather conditions. Often exposed to dirt, dog waste, and cleaning chemicals. Occasional exposure to vicious, dangerous, or menacing dogs. Occasional exposure to dangerous persons. Rare exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

While performing the essential and other duties of this job, the employee may have to walk, run, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may also need to lift and handle dogs of varying weights, strengths, activity levels, and temperaments in and out of the Dog Control vehicle and dog cages.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a good driving record
  • Knowledge of dog care and dangerous dog control
  • Ability to effectively and politely deal with the public
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor; weights could exceed 50 pounds
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, employees, and the general public
