Navistar, Inc. Product Engineer- Vehicle Mechatronics Systems in Lisle, Illinois
Position Overview
Navistar has an exciting new opportunity for a Product Engineer- Vehicle Mechatronics Systems at our WHQ in Lisle, IL.
Navistar System Engineering team is responsible for defining system requirements based on customer, legal, technical standards, or internal specifications for mechanical, electrical, and software elements of defined systems. This position is part of the Systems Engineering team establishing and developing Braking Systems and with a special emphasis on supporting emerging technology development in ADAS, Autonomous, and Electric Vehicle technologies. This position will work closely with the electronic hardware, mechanical hardware, and software engineering teams during product life-cycle.
Responsibilities
Define the functional requirements for Vehicle Mechatronics Systems with a focus on brake functions (ABS, Stability, Park Brake, etc)
Own, manage and release Mechatronics system requirements and specifications according to the V-model for development.
System functional development (Data analysis, troubleshooting, test report review, specification reviews) is the core responsibility which requires a varied skill set and understanding of vehicle system interactions
Develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs) used to define Communications of Mechatronic systems- Special emphasis on Braking functions
Author system and subsystem technical baselines and requirements from vehicle/customer level requirements
Define System Validation and test plans
Define controller communication requirements and interface specifications
Collaborate with functional safety engineers to integrate safety requirements into system designs and functional system architecture
Lead in issue resolution activities during development, validation, and post vehicle launch
Utilization of systems development tools and processes
Share ideas for continuous improvements for the product and on best practices for the team (tools, electronic design and control approach, sensor selection, document format)
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 12 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 8 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies and/or computer science experience
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
OR
PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
At least 5 years of experience in product design/development or new technologies or specialized technologies and/or computer science experience
At least 2 years of experience leading new technologies or specialized technologies
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Desired Skills
Experience with requirement documentation and system engineering principles and techniques
Experience with engineering and quality design and development methodologies: (8D, FMEA, FTA DVP&R)
Direct or coordinated software development experience
Experience in design or development of electromechanical or electrohydraulic systems
Engineering tools such as: CANalyzer, CANape, MS Visio, INCA. Workflow Management tools such as Jira
Experience developing in safety critical regulated industries (aerospace, medical, automotive)
Hardware/Software integration activities across multiple component or system development teams
Ability to learn fast, and to take ownership of assigned systems
Strong collaboration and leadership skills
Ability to look at challenges holistically with a creative mindset to resolve system challenges and constraint while delivering desired functionality
Ways to stand out from the crowd:Prior automotive industry experience in Braking or Steering Systems, Vehicle dynamics Systems, Electronics Development, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
