Los Alamos National Laboratory Software Developer 3 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Production Support Services (PSS-1) group is seeking highly motivated candidates to fill the position of Software Developer 3 working within the PSS-1 Manufacturing Management Systems Team as part of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). The selected candidate(s) will apply their experience in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including technical requirements definition, technical designs, coding, testing and implementation in direct support of the Weapons Production mission execution. The successful candidate (s) will work as part of a team to support projects with software development tools and processes that expand the weapons production systems capability. The team is responsible for evaluating and implementing solutions to efficiently leverage software systems in the deployment of a modern digital manufacturing capability within the Laboratory's plutonium operations and within the framework of the Weapons Production IT Roadmap.

The Software Developers support software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting and implementing new hardware and software solutions. Working with customers and end users to understand requirements and converting them into technical requirements as well as evaluating work processes. The selected candidate(s) will prepare concepts for information system solutions and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of these concepts. The position requires demonstrated expertise in the development of software solutions that will be applied in the Weapons production digital manufacturing environment.

The core responsibilities will include:

  • Software development, existing software enhancements, and the support of deployed software in a manufacturing environment.

  • Analyzing system features and functionality, investigating software requirements, original programming, system testing, and creating comprehensive software documentation.

  • Researching and evaluating new or existing software features, emerging technologies, and development tools.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Software Development: Demonstrated experience with phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Demonstrated experience with application development and implementation, including one or more of the following: Java, Oracle Forms/Reports, Python, PL/SQL, SQL, Spring Boot/Framework, or XML. Working knowledge with software testing and formal software modeling concepts. Knowledge of hardware and operating systems (Unix/Linux server platforms) including system architectures, network infrastructures, and system administration utilities

Oracle Software: Demonstrated development experience with Oracle E-Business Suite applications including Discrete Manufacturing, Oracle MRP, Oracle Inventory and iBASEt Solumina. Knowledge of and/or experience with implementing open-source software, Oracle databases and Linux operating systems.

Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing team-based environment. Demonstrated record of success in developing and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues. Familiarity with Scrum framework and development sprints for migration of software enhancements, extension to existing software.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced Oracle Background: Demonstrated experience with the Oracle E-Business Suite development tools/disciplines. Technical disciplines including SQL, PL/SQL, Forms/Reports, OAF, bash/Linux scripting, Spring boot, Spring framework, Docker/Kubernetes and Middletier servers Weblogic & Tomcat. Functional experience an added plus, as well as iBASEt Solumina MES.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
