Cleco Distribution Engineer in Mansfield, Louisiana

The Distribution Engineer is an experienced professional with knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and/or civil engineering principles, practices, concepts, and theories. This position has the responsibility to design, plan, schedule, and direct various types of distribution construction projects (New Business, System Improvement, System Maintenance, etc.) and provide technical support as needed while under moderate supervision.

  • Model and promote ethical business conduct and compliance with both the letter and spirit of all laws, rules and regulations to which Cleco is subject, annual ethics training will be provided.

  • Utilizing readily available code books, ensure that distribution facilities meet applicable codes and regulations.

  • Maximize profitability by providing accuratecosts estimates to enable Cleco’s Distribution Planning, Governmental Service, and Business Development departments to properly evaluatedistribution projects.

  • Provides communication and regular updates as requested by their manager to provide status updates on assigned tasks, identifies risks in delivery and actively support business development objectives.

  • Assist entry-level staff within assigned project teams, leveraging technical experience to help to onboard them and in support of meeting project milestones.

  • Collaborates with engineering staff and other departments to complete project tasks, reaching out for technical assistance when needed to meet project milestones.

  • Using the Electric Service Standards and Cleco Distribution Construction Manual, create job packets that ensure the proper construction designs and materials are used on the distribution system.

  • Utilizing ArcFM Design Tool, verify that designs provide the appropriate system mapping information to accurately reflect any changes to the Distribution System.

  • Plan and schedule projects as required to meet the department’s construction budget on time.

  • Oversee work activities of construction crews to ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications.

  • Provide information to acquire the necessary right-of-way, permits, and cost information.

  • Assists in processing contractor invoices and/or service entry sheets to ensure timely and accurate payment.

  • Program voltage recorders and analyze downloaded data for power quality issues.

  • Assists with service restoration activities; including circuit patrol, damage assessment, andcontractor crew supervision.

Qualifications

Required Education , Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET approved curriculum or bachelor’s degree in engineering with certification by the NCEES to sit for the FE exam

  • 3-5+ years of related experience preferred

  • Step progression levels based on skill proficiency and scope of job.

  • Strong business acumen pertaining to the Utility industry

  • Workingknowledge of leading practices for their practice area

  • Strong planning and project management skills

  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job

  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner

  • Progression to this level is strictly restricted based on critical individual capabilities and business requirements; must be supported by market survey data.
