SUMMARY

Is responsible for the operation of various machines such as: Bridgeport, Lathe, and Lathe Drill. Also responsible for the operation of various hand tools such as hand grinder, palm sander, files and other various deburring tools. Must be able to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial calipers and go/no go gages. This position is a floater in the shop and as such will move from department to department on an as needed basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with cutter, drill or end mill.

2.

Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.

3.

Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.

4.

Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, or workpieces.

5.

May assist other machine operators to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished workpieces.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education as indicated on job application; or zero to three month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

TRAINING

On the job training. Training may also include basic blue print reading and visual inspection techniques.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Duties are generally prioritized, allowing incumbent to perform independently, with intermittent close supervision, in conformance with written instructions, established schedules, and pre-determined priorities. Problems not clearly defined by written directives or instructions are reviewed with supervisor to determine course of action.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

Position requires ability to work effectively with others where some time may be spent exchanging routine operational information; may have limited exposure to personnel of other departments, staff members, or general public; must be able to communicate routine information in a clear and courteous manner.
