Team Overview:

The Latin America Business Operations team sits within Global Accounting and Product Services (GAAPS), one of the core functions within the Technology & Operations group at BlackRock. Our remit includes product oversight and client service, related to the locally offered solutions across the region, including Mutual Funds, Separately Managed Accounts, ETFs and Alternatives.

The team supports various groups associated with the lifecycle of services offered, collaborating with internal BlackRock teams of Portfolio Management, Trading & Investments, Onboarding, Legal & Compliance, Sales, Product Development, Trade Operations, Financial Reporting and Fund Accounting teams. Our goal is to provide the best-in-class service to our clients, for the offered services and investment solutions provided under local regulation and global capabilities of BlackRock.

The Mexico Business Operations Team is entrusted with the control and oversight of administrative, accounting, taxation, and reporting processes linked to local Mutual Funds, ETFs, and Alternative products. These responsibilities are carried out in strict adherence to the normative framework. Additionally, the team supervises various service providers, including Fund Administrators, Trustees, Custodians, Pricing Providers, Rating Agencies, Independent Appraisers, among others, ensuring that all operations align with BlackRock’s standards of excellence.

Role and impact:

The ideal candidate is an individual who is driven and curious, with a technical financial-risk background and experience in the finance industry. As part of the Business Operation team, you will work with different global and local business teams, partnering with them to ensure a stable and risk controlled operational framework for our local domicile products and solutions. The role will involve application of accounting and capital markets technical knowledge (under Mexican regulation), especially in the Asset Management field. Coding skills and process automation experience are highly desirable.

This role requires a business-driven mindset and creativity in finding ways to support the sales process, optimize operations, and mitigate risks. The candidate should be able to handle a steep learning curve and a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate is resilient, flexible, and persistent. The role is for problem-solvers and individuals that do not shy away from seeking help outside their immediate network.

Role and Responsibilities: The potential candidate should have the capacity to:

  • Understand asset management products and portfolio solutions offered to clients, legal and regulatory framework, along with the operating model and execution of the portfolio management lifecycle.

  • Partner with global business operations and local business teams to provide local expertise (taxes, valuation, fund admin) and support different product events like creation, merges, termination and repurposes.

  • Build partnerships with external ecosystem by interacting with regulators, fund accounting providers, trustees, custodians, price vendors, distributors and others involved in the lifecycle of the local domicile products.

  • Lead projects to enhance the operative ecosystem of the local domicile Mutual Funds, ETF and Alternative products. For that, the candidate should be in capacity to communicate and negotiate with different providers and internal teams.

  • Follow-up to the local regulatory agenda and analysis of impacts for the local businesses.

  • Maintain a risk-controlled environment together with our key service providers, minimizing the operational events.

  • Oversight all the operational flows of the local Mutual Funds for Net Asset Value (NAV) calculation.

  • Consistently perform risk assessments and drive improvements to existing controls and procedures.

  • Automate all manual processes using RPA tools.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish

  • Bachelor’s degree required in finance, economics, accounting, computer science business management, or equivalent. Certification in “Figura 3” is desirable.

  • Ideal candidate will have proven experience of 1+ years in the financial industry, with knowledge of capital markets and the ecosystem of regulators and market participants.

  • Understanding lifecycle of the banking industry, financial services, traded products in exchanges, such as derivatives, equity, fixed income, and cross listed, as well as overall processes of accounting, valuation and tax of a security and a portfolio.

  • Highly computer-literate, with advanced Python, VBA and Microsoft Office knowledge.

  • Excellent attention to detail, as well as the ability to produce accurate work and spots mistakes/errors and makes appropriate corrections.

  • Candidates should have a keen eye for opportunities to create efficiency, and a track record of executing these improvements.

  • Self-driven, proactive, and committed to achieving objectives.

  • Strong interpersonal and client service skills, problem solving, analysis and proactiveness.

  • Excellent communication skills and able to convey information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
