The department of Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Associate 1 to work at UHealth. The Senior Research Associate 1, SOM provides laboratory-based support for the University’s research activities by tackling the more specialized and complex projects and experiments. Additionally, the incumbent leverages his/her expertise in training and mentoring department staff, students, and less experienced research associates.

A majority of the incumbent’s role will be serving as patient navigator for a clinical trial involving persons with severe infections related to injection drug use. Incumbent will build relationships with patients with recent injection drug use, opioid addiction, and stimulant addiction, who are experiencing infectious complications. Incumbent will help support patients through their infection treatment and assist with treatment of substance us disorder as well as harm reduction techniques. The employee work environments will include the hospital setting, clinical research building, and a

syringe services program, as well as visiting with patients out in the community. Experience working with populations of people who inject drugs is a requirement as well as demonstration of non-stigmatizing approaches toward persons with problematic substance use.

  • Collects, analyzes, and presents research data. Monitors and maintains relevant research databases to ensure accurate data entries.

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results to include authorship of scientific monographs.

  • Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.

  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant developments in the field.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Warrants that department activities comply with applicable guidelines and regulations.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in relevant field required

  • No experience required

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
