DowFinance organization has an opening for aSenior Director of Financial Risk Managementwithin the Treasury’s Financial Risk Management Team (FRMT), located at the company’s world headquarters inMidland, Michigan.

About you and this role

As a Senior Director of Financial Risk Management you will lead a team of professionals to develop, execute, monitor and manage the financial risk management strategies for portfolios of financial exposures with accountability for the financial results. You will be a key member of the FRMT reporting to the Global Director of Financial Risk Management.

The FRMT manages the global hedging and investments related to a $35+ billion portfolio of exposures derived from foreign currencies, interest rates, commodities and investments. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your leadership skills and significant market experience to ensure the success of the company.

The successful candidate will focus in Interest Rate Risk & Liquidity Management

Ideal candidates will have substantive experience in front office markets management roles with deep derivatives experience preferably as a member of the FRMT and/or Portfolio Investments. Ideal candidates will also have an outstanding track record of performance in a number of the other treasury processes which allows a deeper understanding of the nature of the company’s exposures, the measurement and recording of the effects of the risks being managed and the operational aspects of transacting in the markets.

Responsibilities

In alignment with the vision of the Global Director of Financial Risk Management, lead a team of professionals to systematically develop, execute and manage the financial risk management strategies for portfolios of financial exposures. For example:

  • Ensure the team pro-actively monitors exposures and markets, providing guidance in the evaluation of pertinent internal and external information from multiple sources.

  • Ensure deep understanding of Hedge Accounting and impact on Cash Flow, Profits and CTA of derivatives performed by the team.

  • Guide the team in the analysis and evaluation of the macroeconomic conditions, market dynamics and price action of the various markets to estimate their potential impact on the company’s exposures from multiple perspectives.

  • Earnings, cash flow, value changes, etc.

  • Guide the team in evaluation of the available market for derivatives and other hedging instruments and their relative costs, benefits, credit exposure and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure the team develops and applies advanced accounting concepts, including hedge accounting where optimal, in the evaluation of available hedging instruments relative to exposures.

  • Guide the team in development of analysis methods to effectively evaluate the multi-faceted effects on the company of various risk management strategies.

  • Ensure the team develops, maintains and shares relevant market views and hedging strategies based upon fundamental, technical and quantitative analysis of hedged positions.

  • Ensure the team develops, succinctly proposes and timely/opportunistically implements optimal risk management hedging strategies, that are appropriately balanced among financial statement volatility, profitability and financial flexibility.

  • Guide the team in development of market strategies to optimize the company’s cash investments.

  • Take positions in the financial markets to earn positive profits for the company and guide the team in the evaluation and management of their positions.

  • Serve as a trusted risk advisor to the company. For example: Ensure the team advises, educates and presents on matters related to the markets, exposures and risk, their various impacts on the company and best practices for effective mitigation and management.

  • Counsel senior management and provide concise updates as macroeconomic and financial markets change.

  • Ensure the development and timely publication of periodic forecasts of macroeconomic conditions and market prices.

  • Lead collaboration with Financial Planning, Funding and other functions to ensure the most effective handling of potential changes in financial exposures for the company as a whole, and methods to eliminate the creation of exposures at the source.

  • Actively lead, develop, mentor, teach and train each member of the team, in all aspects of the FRMT, finding opportunities to provide them appropriate exposure, and be seen as a role-model for all employees.

Lead the efficient and orderly execution, monitoring and management of the FRMT’s risk management strategies, in effective collaboration across the global FRMT, and with multiple other Treasury, company and external functions/processes (Operations, Compliance, Systems, Credit, Planning, Funding, Legal, Accounting, Tax, Counterparties and others). For example:

  • Ensure the team performs all activities to negotiate, transact, monitor and manage the hedging instruments and investments.

  • Ensure expert trading of financial instruments and prudent management of various execution and ongoing risks ensuring all controls are continuously maintained (appropriate counterparties engaged, transactions booked, hedge accounting documentation completed and derivatives monitored etc.)

  • Guide the evaluation of financial performance for the company’s exposures and implemented hedges as compared to the range of possible outcomes.

  • Direct that various documentation, reports and analyses are generated to effectively convey the implementation, performance and sensitivity of risk management strategies to management, other members of the FRMT, controllers, tax and other stakeholders.

  • Frequently review the FRMT’s periodic and ad-hoc reporting to ensure it is appropriately specified to effectively monitor the positions and conditions, and has been developed, created, optimized and timely distributed to the appropriate parties.

  • Ensure the team evaluates impacts of changes in the regulatory environment, accounting standards and industry practices, and use in depth experience to predict their impact, guiding the development of optimal Dow positions for the conditions while ensuring the appropriate documentation.

  • Proactively evaluate FRMT practices for continuous improvement, and when opportunities arise, direct optimal solutions in infrastructure and procedures.

  • Ensure the FRMT operates in complete compliance with all laws, regulations, delegations, controls, policies, and procedures.

  • Lead and complete ad-hoc requests, deliver projects, and fulfill other routine duties as may be appropriate and/or required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree OR relevant military experience at an E6 rank/Petty Officer 2nd Class or higher is required.

  • A minimum of 10 years of total experience with a focus in financial/capital markets-oriented positions, and/or other relevant experience.

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Finance and/or Economics is preferred.

  • Master’s degree (MBA with a finance focus) is desirable.

  • CFA Charterholder is preferred.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

  • In depth understanding of Interest Rate derivatives, cash management, planning and accounting principles with significant experience implementing the principals of hedge accounting, a regulatory and control environment, and business/financial law.

  • In depth understanding of and interest in technology and financial systems.

  • Mastery of and interest in mathematical modeling and statistical methods.
